Of course, we all remember Rick Springfield’s incredible tune Jessie’s Girl (and now it’s probably stuck in your head – not even sorry), but now, the same gals behind Brisbane-icon Scout Café have turned the song into your new favourite neighbourhood bar. Éntre: Jessie’s Girl, the Petrie Terrace bar & eatery serving up aperitivo-style eats and drinks and shaking up our evenings!

Just a short meander down Petrie Terrace from sister-café Scout and in the space formerly occupied by Hops Scotch & Beans, this charming boutique bar is hallmarked by a slick neon sign of a dainty martini glass toasting to happy hours everywhere. This beguiling and bright bar is a convivial place to chat over European-style nibbles, sip on ice cold bevs, and enjoy a lazy evening amongst friendly company.

Owners Suse Whitehouse and Candy Smith have used the space to create a Euro-esque vibe that feels like dining on the Amalfi coast in summer, with décor and a menu to match. Think casement windows, timber flooring, brass elements, a slick white bar, open plan dining, and banquette-lined walls. With music that gets louder and lights that get lower as the evening stretches on, Jessie’s Girl, while distinctly feminine in appearance, packs a punchy attitude that is delightfully irresistible.

Jessie's Girl Brisbane

While the décor is classic and timeless, the menu is decidedly modern focusing on easy-to-share plates that are best enjoyed with your nearest and dearest. The luscious Italian-fare includes cracking options such as French onion croquette, cheese or charcuterie plates, pipis with speck, and steak tartare. If you’ve ever enjoyed a home-cooked feast from your nonna, this will surely inspire similar feelings.

On the other hand, if it’s a tipple you’re after Jessie’s Girl has you sorted with a carefully curated selection of craft beer and wines, as well as a clever array of classic Italian cocktails & spritz, such as The Ritz (limoncello, gin, prosecco and raspberry), The Shitz (apricot, Prosecco, olives), and this writers favourite, vermouth and tonic. Need a little more to tempt you? Their happy hour is 4-6pm every single day and includes tidy drink specials and free snacks available at the bar! However, it’s their boozy weekend brunches that really get us excited. Whether you’re nursing a hangover or gearing up for the weekend, there’s nothing quite like highballs filled with Bloody Mary’s and sweet, chilled spritzes to get you going.

Open from 4pm every day of the week (excluding Tuesday – they need to rest some time) and open for brunch on Saturday & Sunday, this CBD-fringe bar might just become your new favourite place to enjoy a drink or two (or three or four…) alongside some mouth-wateringly delicious Italian-fare.

This is the start of a beautiful love affair.
