Brisbane’s First Jamaican Bar

Cue the Rasta and Reggae; Brisbane now has a little piece of Jamaican spirit and spice on the foodie trail.

Considering the string of Caribbean-set movies filmed on Queensland beaches, it’s surprising our little slice of paradise didn’t embrace their exotic cuisine sooner. Eccentrically pieced together with a raw, Antilles street feel, Jahh Tiger Rum and Jerk Shack has just landed a la Park Road – Milton’s culinary melting pot. We’re expecting delicious things...

Founder Lucy Forsyth says the bars conception was inspired during her travels around Jamaica. Stumbling upon Boston Bay – the original home of Jerk Chicken, Jay Jay their guide introduced them to Miss Ivy, the local ‘queen’ of Jerk sauce. After much bartering, Miss Ivy gave them her secret recipe which now forms the base of all Jahh Tiger’s marinades. All hail Miss Ivy!

What exactly is Jerk, you may ask? It's a traditional way of dry-rubbing and cooking meat, marinating it with a flavoursome fusion of herbs, spices, honey and rum. Other menu highlights include Caribbean street corn, salt fish fritters with lime and pepper dipping source and classic Jamaican rice and beans.

That’s not to mention the thirst quenching, with a range of tasty sounding cocktails on tap, brewed beers and Jamaican punch. And of course, there’s enough rum to satisfy Jack Sparrow. Sorry, Captain Jack Sparrow. If you’re feeling like upping the festivities while keeping it casual, Jahh Tiger would make a great spot for a summer Sunday sesh.
