Reclaim your Sunday

It’s true what they say… A Sunday well spent brings a week of content. Bring on the Sunday Session!

By Candice Jackson | 17th October 2014

Brisbane is booming with exciting and quirky venues, perfect for a weekend wind (or rather… wine) down.

The Great South East crew have been busy exploring the Brisbane bar scene to find some of the prime venues on offer for those perfect Sunday Sessions we all deserve.

The results are in…

Woolly Mammoth Alehouse

Woolly Mammoth Alehouse, Fortitude Valley

Woolly Mammoth Alehouse, Fortitude Valley

The Valley’s newest beervana, The Woolly Mammoth Alehouse, has taken over the old Mustang Bar and replaced it with a multi-levelled venue, including an indoor rooftop garden, ‘Mane Stage’ gig space and an alehouse below. Not only a special place for beer enthusiasts, but also children at heart (HYPERLINK TO GAME STORY), with an astro-turf area with a colourful giant Jenga kit, indoor bocce and 14ft Hudson shuffleboard. The mammoth menu also features hand stretched dough pizza, off the bone ribs, pork or chicken, charcuterie options, salad and a bunch of other treats to snack on.

Lock’N’Load Bistro

Lock'N'Load, West End

Lock'N'Load, West End

Halfway down the Boundary Street strip is a quirky venue with a bohemian vibe. Lock 'n' Load’s street corner bar in West End has a New Orleans feel mixed with an Aussie beer garden. It’s known for its cosy yet boisterous atmosphere and as a great spot for a relaxed Sunday session with friends. Kick back on a Sunday and enjoy the tranquil courtyard, their regularly live music pop ups and delicious sharing menu consisting of 13 mouth watering options!

142 Boundary St, West End
P 3844 0142

Stoke Bar

Stoke Bar, South Bank

Stoke Bar, South Bank

Some Sundays are best spent by the water and Stokehouse’s inhouse bar offers a picturesque view overlooking the Brisbane river. While South Bank’s contemporary restaurant is situated on a prime riverfront position, Stoke Bar isn’t pretentious and offers a welcoming, relaxed, casual dining experience. The bar’s menu offers elegant, contemporary Mediterranean dishes in small, share and main plates, which are the perfect addition to a well-selected wine on the bar’s wide deck.

Sidon Street, South Bank
P 3020 0600

The Great South East’s episode featuring Brisbane’s best Sunday Sessions airs on Sunday October 19 at 5.30pm.
