Play catch-up with me every fortnight as I give you a taste of what you’ve missed and what’s to come in Brisbane’s Food+Drink scene.
1. Brisbane’s First Dedicated Board Game Café and Bar
Heaps of bars and cafés in Brisbane offer board games but Club Sosay in Paddington has just opened as Brisbane’s first dedicated board game café and bar. The venue has more than 500 games to play or purchase, with an all-day food menu and full bar stocked with craft beers, wine and spirits.
2. New Brisbane Fromagerie
Cheese and fine food – is there anything more precious in our foodie life? (Besides wine, of course.) Opening in July, there’ll be even more reasons to stock up on cheese with a new fromagerie called Emile and Solange opening in Albion’s Vieille Branche complex.
3. Laneway Sicilian in M&A
Meaning “our home”, Casa Nostra Ristorante is providing a true, authentic and handmade Italian dining experience in the heart of Fortitude Valley, taking over the space recently vacated by Mighty Mighty in M&A Lane.
4. Say Hello To Harry
The popular Sunshine Coast burger joint Hello Harry opened a funky eatery at Portside Wharf with a graffiti mural that will be refreshed every four to six weeks. They’re serving generous-sized burgers for only $10! A Milton location will also be opening in early July on Railway Terrace.
5. DIY Degustations
If you’ve ever been to a degustation, there’s always one meal that someone doesn’t quite favour or leaves entirely. Nickel Kitchen & Bar, Fortitude Valley’s newest Art Deco-inspired restaurant, will introduce a DIY degustation option this month, so everyone can get the dishes they love. Diners will be able to choose dishes from an online menu form within 72 hours of dining.
6. Anise Is Going Back To Its Grass Roots
New Farm dining stalwart Anise has changed its direction, reinventing itself as Brisbane’s only dedicated wine bar. With the change comes a stronger wine focus and wine-friendly food menu. Anise owner Thames Delaforce says while there are minor cosmetic changes, the tunes will still be played on vinyl.
7. Story Bridge Offers A Taste Of France
Want to sample the flavours of France from Brisbane? Deery’s Restaurant & Smokehouse at the Story Bridge Hotel invites you to enjoy Plat du Jour – a two-course French-inspired meal that changes every Sunday lunch for only $35pp.
8. Dello Mano Is Opening A Second Location
We love brownies! And with Dello Mano is set to open their second venue in the Tattersall’s Arcade this month, we’re already prepping for our sugar comas.
9. Pour the Champagne!
We know we love it, but apparently Queenslanders are some of the most enthusiastic drinkers in Australia. That very fact has bestowed South East Queensland with a momentous honour: hosting the first ever Australian festival celebrating champagne. We’ll drink to that! The Effervescence festival is coming in August, but here are all the details.
10. Tight Greek Tuesdays
After 3pm on Tuesdays, you can order pork, chicken, lamb or haloumi (YESSSS, HALOUMI) yiros and a can of drink for only $10 at The Yiros Shop’s three locations. And we hear there is a fourth location launching soon in the CBD.
