Play catch-up with me every fortnight as I give you a taste of what you’ve missed and what’s to come in Brisbane’s Food+Drink scene. I may not be a foodie connoisseur, but I’m definitely an enthusiast!

Pig & Kraut's bratwursts and ice tea

Pig and Kraut has popped up in South Bank Parklands to serve home-grown German bratwurst cooked on their sizzling hotplate. All sausages are made from locally-sourced, all-natural ingredients. The pop-up also sells refreshing blends of ice tea, such as peach and raspberry; buy one in a mason jar and you can treat yourself to $2 refills all day!

Hungry Like The Wolfe

Owner-operator and celebrity chef Paul McGivern will bring a little bit of luxury to Stanley St East, East Brisbane when he opens a contemporary fine dining restaurant with an edge on February 2, 2016. The  restaurant, named The Wolfe, will be open Tuesday to Saturday, with a contemporary Australian menu that will change every four weeks to incorporate the freshest local and seasonal produce.

New CBD Hotspot, Jabiru

Brisbane’s iconic Post Office Square welcomed a new addition this month with Jabiru – it’s a café, restaurant and bar, all in one! Named after a town in the heart of Australia’s Kakadu National Park, Jabiru will serve Australian classics with subtle Asian, European, Middle Eastern, African and South American twists and influences.

The Crafty Bavarian range at Bavarian Bier Cafe also have menu items to match!

The Bavarian Bier Café just got crafty, launching their own range of craft beer, which is brewed in Australia under the Crafty Bavarian Brewing Co. The Crafty Bavarian range includes Munich Lager, Butcher’s Bride Pale Ale, a wheat and barley blend called Hop Dock and the low-carb Blonde Moment. All are exclusively available on tap at the Eagle Street Pier venue. To celebrate this crafty launch, the Bavarian Bier Café has added a few Bavarian-inspired burgers and hot dogs to their menu to complement the new flavours.

The Ridges Fortitude Valley opens Six Acres on February 8

The Ridges Fortitude Valley opens Six Acres on February 9

Rydges’ new Fortitude Valley location will open in February, bringing with it a restaurant that delivers paddock to plate dining experiences. Six Acres Restaurant, set to bring the country to the city from February 9, will serve a seasonal menu of fresh, local, premium Queensland produce for breakfast and dinner bookings.

Tippler’s Tap has moved

Newstead’s craft beer bar Tippler’s Tap has relocated to South Bank’s Grey Street, in the venue previously occupied by sister venue Tomahawk Bar. They will continue their focus on craft beer and Chicago-style street food at their new location.

The iconic corner building on Park Road has welcomed a new high-end seafood restaurant. Wilsons on the River is full of charm and elegance, complete with a luxurious champagne bar with unrestricted views of the Brisbane River from its Coronation Drive-facing windows.

Farewell Fourth Wall

Fourth Wall, Fortitude Valley’s cosy hidden cocktail bar, has now passed ownership onto a new, relaxed cocktail and whisky bar, Pillar. They plan to be open and operational by February 1, 2016.

DIY Wine Bar and Tapas

Come for the wine… and, let’s be honest, stay for the wine. And cheese! Deano’s Wine Bar and Tapas in Paddington quietly launched in December last year, offering Brisbane wine lovers a very different wine experience, with traditional tapas boards. The venue’s enomatic machines (automatic wine dispensers) allow customers to sample various wines with a touch-and-go wine card. The wine is mostly Australian at the moment, with the variety to change monthly. The tapas options currently include antipasto and cheese platters, garlic pan-fried prawns and a variety of other platters.


1. Lunar New Year Festivities
In February, Treasury Casino & Hotel invites you to experience the city’s most vibrant celebration of the Lunar New Year with a host of delightful property-wide festivities. We’re most excited about their Lunar High Tea at The Lab, which will offer vibrant Asian-influenced savoury and sweet treats and eastern teas.

2. The Great Brewsvegas Pool Party
In a celebration of all things summer, Brisbane and beers, we welcome back Brewsvegas for 2016! This pool party will be host the official program announcement for the year, the launch of the official Brewsvegas Brew for 2016 by local legends Fortitude Brewing Co., and a pool party (duh!) at Ithica Swimming Pool. 3. Metre Market
Metre Market is a new boutique market launching in Brisbane on February 7 that will merge fashion, music, food, art and good vibes. More info here.
