Food Trend: Brisbane Superfood Cocktails

Food Trend: Brisbane Superfood Cocktails

A cheers to health… sort of.

Sometimes you just want to order a decent cocktail without cringing at the possible calorie count or regretting spending upwards of $20 on lolly water with pretty skewered fruit on top.

While we have a soft spot for cocktails, including the classic cosmo, refreshing margarita and fancy espresso martinis around Brisbane, we’re pretty excited that Brisbane finally has a range of superfood cocktails that we can drink guilt-free in our activewear, activewear.

Well, maybe not in our activewear, but surely we can validate a round with the girls when we’re on a health kick. We’ll cheers to that!

You’ve heard of superfoods (quick refresh: they’re high in nutrients and other healthy goodies) like kale, acai, sweet potatoes, goji berries and quinoa being used in snacks, meals and juices to increase energy, boost metabolism and protect the body from toxins.

To the genius who decided to mix superfoods with alcohol to create the ultimate “healthy cocktails”, we applaud and say THANK YOU, kind sir, madam, mixologist or organic crusader. You deserve an award.

AND here’s a hot tip: ordering superfood cocktails containing chia seeds can help you avoid the dreaded hangover as they’re super hydrating, carrying 10 times their weight in water.

So where is Brisbane serving such glorious creations?

Corbett & Claude recently launched a new range of superfood pizzas and superfood cocktails to go hand-in-hand on their share menu. There are two superfood cocktails to choose from, including the hilariously named Cocktails In My Activewear with vodka, chia seeds and lychee. There’s also a naughty but nice green smoothie called Don’t Kale My Vibe.

And we hear Miss Bliss have been working on their range of superfood cocktails for a while. A soft launch has begun, with the full range due to be made available in January 2016 when a Miss Bliss bar may or may not be opening (squeal!).  Jacqui Toumbas (Miss Bliss herself) has joined forces with Zac Hay, acclaimed Brisbane cocktail master from the likes of the Emporium Hotel Cocktail Bar, to develop the exclusive clean superfood cocktail offering.

Let us know if you’ve heard of any other Brisbane venues serving superfood cocktails!
