You’ve got to hand it to them- the team behind Chu the Phat know how to build up a hearty-dose of suspense.
The building site has been a hive of activity for months, and the restaurants’s Instagram account has been dropping teaser pics since May last year.
After such anticipation, the multi-level eatery Chu the Phat finally opened on Melbourne St, last week.
Inspired by various Asian hawker cuisines, the latest offering by Raw Group is the sister restaurant to CBD favourite, Madame Wu.
Conveniently located next door to Gelato Messina (#brilliant), Chu the Phat is richly decorated with colourful parasols, a huge spiral staircase, and plants aplenty.
The menu is broken up into snacks, breads, starters, stir-fried noodles and rice, and main fare.
It’s early days yet, but a few favourites have emerged from the bustling, open-air kitchen.
Don’t miss the Kung Pao Chicken Wings, or the Chicken and Mushroom Dumplings. The Lion’s Head Meatball Sandwich has also been receiving rave reviews, but don’t worry- the ‘head’ is made out of pork and shredded cabbage!
Stop by for a drink and a snack at the mammoth timber bar, which runs along the side of the restaurant. The Nutella Espresso Martini sounds like the ultimate in liquid dessert!
