While Barcadia Kitchen + Bar is Bulimba’s newest ‘local’, the venue’s take on ‘think local, drink local’ with local brews and its quality food and drink offerings, it will attract more than just the immediate neighbourhood.
The venue name itself is derived from a poetic ideal (Arcadia) of a place where everything’s good and right. That sounds like our type of place.
Two local guys, Ben Pullen and Ben Moore, are behind the newest Oxford Street venue that is set to answer neighbourhood requests for a new casual place for friends to gather, relax, eat, share a drink and watch the world go by.
While we mentioned their focus on local brews earlier, the Bens say although they will feature 10 beer taps from familiar local breweries, the bar is also geared to serving quality whiskies, wines and Champagnes from around the globe.
There’s also some great eatable options on the bar menu, including Crispy cured pork skins with habanero rub, Wagyu beef spring rolls, and Gnocco fritto parcels with pancetta affumicata and mozzarella.
Barcadia’s head chef Daniel Jones (of popular eateries, including Buffalo Bar and Cha Cha Char) has crafted the menu, from modern bar snacks to larger meals and share plates, including, Braised short ribs with satin mash, Spiced coffee and gin cured hiramasa kingfish and Shaved winter roots salad with tea raisins and Manuka honey.
Ben Pullen says they really wanted to create a quality ‘local’ in Bulimba that was big on quality food and drink, while also offering new tastes and twists on old favourites.
“People from the Bulimba district, from Morningside through to East Brisbane, have been chasing a venue that gives them a reason to eat and drink locally, without having to go back across the river,” he says.
Barcadia Kitchen + Bar overlooks Bulimba’s Oxford Street and Memorial Park and will be open 7 days a week, from 11am til late, for lunch, dinner, drinks and all round good times.
