We’ve only just managed to calm down after hearing the AMAZING NEWS that Gelato Messina is opening its biggest Australian shop in South Bank this October. And now they’ve gone and topped it by dropping this news on us: the store will have a full kitchen and classroom for gelato appreciation and hands-on classes!
Our excitement levels immediately peaked to 11 and we’ve gone gelato mad, spending our days dreaming of all the beautiful possibilities this magical kitchen will bring to our foodie souls.
Picture it now: you don your apron, ready to become a Messina mastermind. (Almost) every scoop goes in the bowl but you remember to save some for yourself because you’re only human. We’ve pretty much resigned ourselves to becoming so full they’ll have to roll us out of there like Violet in Willy Wonka. #sorrynotsorry
It’s not hard to daydream of gelato, but imagine if your class is hosted by a chef as dreamy as this!
OK, stop staring at the chef, because we’re here to talk gelato! Here are the behind-the-scenes classes headed our way, Brisbanites:
Gelato Appreciation Classes:
It’s obvious that Australians appreciate good gelato, especially Messina’s, as it has garnered a cult following among foodie fanatics nationally. This class is described as part gelato making, part info session, part science lesson and (our favourite) part gelato degustation! You’ll learn how the gelato and gelato cakes are created, and taste-test them, as well as enjoying a five-course gelato degustation and a challenge to see if you have the stamina to trial all 40 flavours. Challenge accepted!
Hands-On Gelato Classes:
If you’re ready to take your relationship with Gelato Messina to the next level, this class is for you! You’ll create and pasteurise your own gelato in a Thermomix and turn it into perfectly-plated desserts (yes, you can eat it too!). There is also a gelato degustation of plated desserts, a copy of Gelato Messina: The Recipes and your very own gelato tub to take home.
If a class isn’t your style, you can still show your appreciation and get some hands-on experience by eating as many scoops as possible from the Melbourne Street location when it opens in October. And while the wait is a little longer than we’d like, there’s plenty of time to pick our favourites from their 35 standard flavours. We’re already thinking Apple Pie, Pistachio and Bounty might become our go-tos, but with five new flavours every single week, there’s no telling what our tastebuds will fall in love with.
You can check out all the flavours here, and order it with us on their opening day!
