It is a truth universally acknowledged that, when it comes to acquired tastes, there’s not much that tops the oyster. Fishy, slimy and salty – these brain-like little molluscs have a squishy texture and are not exactly pretty to look at.

They don't exactly sound appealing, do they? True, some may recoil in disgust but others are drawn to oysters like moths to a flame.

If you’re a hater, it’s time to come out of your shell and give them a try, because we’ve put together a list of where to find the best of the best oysters in Brisbane. Shuck it to us, baby!

Blackbird Bar & Grill | Brisbane

If you’re looking for something a little bit fancy, be shellfish and go all out at Blackbird Bar & Grill. With everything from Coffin Bay to Tunstead and Moonlight Flat varieties – all served with seasonal mignonette – even the die-hard oyster lovers will be impressed.

Otto | Brisbane

Sydney restaurants Quay and Otto Ristorante have made Brisbane their second home, much to the delight of oyster connoisseurs out there! Their Sydney rock oysters are served natural with orange granita and are a must-try for those after a taste sensation.

Jellyfish | Brisbane

Often sited as one of Brisbane’s best seafood restaurants, Jellyfish on Eagle Street Pier is home to some of the best oysters money can buy. Served natural with mignonette, French cider vinegar, shallots and lemon; baked with Chinese BBQ pork, tomato and chili sambal; or cold with horse radish sorbet, wakame and olive oil.

Hatch & Co | Newstead

The uber-trendy open-air dining spot Hatch & Co has an ever-changing menu. Their current oyster offering is innovative, and the perfect oyster for those who don’t like oysters: wood-fired with caramelised onion and parmesan cheese.

Samies Girl Seafood | Hamilton

A family-owned business for more than 30 years, Samies Girl is an unassuming seafood market sourcing the biggest and freshest seafood, direct from local fishermen and high-quality suppliers on a daily basis. Head in-store to see their range of oysters, which will vary depending on the season.

The Fish Factory | Morningside

This iconic Brisbane fish market has recently undergone a refurbishment, but they are still sourcing the freshest seafood available. Dine in or takeaway, their entire range of seafood is sourced from either Australia or New Zealand. See in-store for their range of fresh oysters or head to the café for battered or Kilpatrick options.

Reef Seafood & Sushi | Newstead

The owners of Reef admit that oysters are one of their greatest loves. Only bringing in the finest quality from Australia shores, all their oysters are shucked and live in-store so you can enjoy the show as you wait for your next dozen.
