Brisbane's Best Matcha Dishes

Because we love green tea so matcha!

If you’ve been paying attention to the food and drink scene lately, chances are you’ve heard about matcha. You may also have dismissed it because you have no idea what the heck it is.

If you don’t know much about matcha, it’s made by grinding specially-grown green tea leaves into a fine powder that dates back to an ancient Japanese tradition. Simply put, it’s one of the tastiest, most amazing things you can eat or drink and it has endless health benefits!

Legend (the internet) has it that matcha is packed with more antioxidants than any other superfood, with one cup of matcha equivalent to 10 cups of regular green tea.

If you want to meet your perfect matcha, you need to check out our hit list of the cafés serving up Brisbane’s best matcha.

Sinmei Tea Room, Fortitude Valley

When books and food come together, it’s a matcha made in heaven! You’ll find Sinmei Tea Room within James Street’s favourite bookstore, Scrumptious Reads. This place blends tradition and creativity with most of its fare made from matcha. And the afternoon high tea is the perfect reason to trial a bunch of different dishes, from matcha chocolate fondant to matcha lamingtons. Trust us when we say you need to try everything!

Passion Tree, Brisbane

Passion Tree’s matcha mochi pancakes taste even better than they look. Taking breakfast to the next level, the fluffy pancake stack is layered with dollop cream, topped with matcha ice-cream complete with a waffle cone and drizzled with green tea and white chocolate sauce.

Sonder Dessert, Sunnybank Hills

This specialty matcha-themed dessert café is a must on your matcha tour of Brisbane. From matcha floats and cold brews to their famous matcha parfaits, you’re guaranteed a green tea fix at Sonder Dessert.
