Brisbane’s Best Mac & Cheese: 2014 Edit

Even though I’m a bit of a health freak, I still have a few naughty vices - one of which being Mac & Cheese. I’ve always liked the blend of grilled cheese, yummy creaminess and macaroni pasta but I truly fell in love when I visited the States last year – be sure to look up Sweet Chick in Brooklyn if NYC is on your radar soon.

Americans are the best at unhealthy, deliciousness like this. But after coming home addicted, I wanted to seek out the best my humble hometown had to offer.
Here is our list of best Mac & Cheese in town…

South Side Diner

Surprisingly, I stumbled across this one accidentally late one night after an event. This American style diner not only talks the talk, it walks the walk. Try out the Goats Cheese, Green Pea and Spinach or the Truffled Pecorino. Plus go with a date on Mondays for 2 for 1 Mac & Cheese!
Shop B8/B9 168 Grey St, South Brisbane

Papa Jacks

The Herb Crusted Mac & Cheese at Papa Jacks changed my life! Baked and served in the same dish you can enjoy all the full flavours of the delicious truffles and herbs infused in cheesy, golden goodness.
Corner Connor & McLachlin St, Valley

Mighty Mighty

Another American inspired joint in the Valley to hit the list, Mighty Mighty Cue & Brew serve up a delicious cornmeal (ground dried corn) crumble Mac & Cheese- seriously can't get anymore American than cornmeal!
Shop 6/7, 100 McLachlan St, Valley

Public’s Truffle Mac & Cheese is famous! It’s the fancy-pants sister of the normally very homely dish. It’s no longer on the menu permanently but it’s made such an impact on the social set of Brisbane, that you’ll often find it’s available as a special. Follow them on Instagram to find out when you can head in and fill up (or ask nicely and they might just make you some).
400 George St, City

Sixes and Sevens

Hiding in the sides, Sixes’ Mac & Cheese combines the earthy, sweet yet slightly salty flavours of Gruyere cheese with the rustic notes of delicious smoked cheddar. Order a bowl to accompany the many other share-style options (or your beverage of choice) on offer.
67 James St, Valley
