BNE’s Best Charcuterie Boards

The perfect day out is only a cheeseboard away!

By Hayley Hinze | 19th November 2020

Gone are the days of a hunk of cheddar, bag of Jatz and tub of hummus slapped on a plate – the humble cheeseboard has become something of an artform. Time to plan a Sunday arvo on the cheeses, because we’ve found Brisbane’s best places to get a charcuterie, cheeseboard, grazing platter, and everything of the sort.

C’est Bon | Woolloongabba

You’ll be spoilt for choice with their dedicated charcuterie menu, full of seasonal meats and cheeses with a modern French flair. Pick ‘n mix from the likes of Italian Prosciutto Villani, white mould ashed goats’ cheese, and blue cheese direct from France. Topped off with an extensive wine, champagne and cocktail list, you can enjoy it all from their bar, garden terrace or rooftop lounge. Either way, the cheese still tastes grand.

Gerard’s Bar | Fortitude Valley

Combining flavours of the Maghreb and Middle East, this crowd-favourite menu offers an extensive range of share-style plates and Middle Eastern style tapas. Unsure of what to try? The menu is constantly changing to stay up to date with the produce of the season, meaning multiple visits is a necessity because – trust us – you’re going to want to try it all. To get the full Gerard’s experience, we recommend complimenting your selections with a drink from their carefully curated wine list. Wine not?!

Cru Bar | Fortitude Valley

The basics are done well with this spread featuring figs, grapes, quince paste, crisp breads, Barossa bark and gourmet cheeses from around the globe. But with an award-winning list of over 450 wines on offer, it’d be criminal not to accompany it all with a glass (or bottle) of red. Enjoy it all from their modern and classy restaurant space located in the heart of it all on James Street.

Mumbleberry | Wilston

A huge range of artisan cheeses, cured meats, spices, oils and accompaniments await your selection from this locally owned boutique store. With some of the finest locally sourced delicacies around and owner Lucy’s expert recommendations as guidance, all that’s left to do is plate up – and that’s the fun part! Pick from a range of pre-made hampers or explore all the gourmet options in this foodie paradise.

Mr Edwards Alehouse & Kitchen | CBD

Look no further for your afternoon cheese o’clock spot! Located in the heart of the city, this place features a large outdoor dining area and extensive menu, perfect for a Friday afternoon situation. Build your own board or leave it to the pros to arrange something special with a range of cheeses and charcuterie from around the world. Prepare for the likes of Charleston Jersey Brie for a gourmet version of a crowd favourite, or the aged and nutty tones of a French Comte. Accompanied by bread, olives, pickled vegetables and chutney, then washed down with a craft beer or specialty wine, you’re guaranteed a good time.

The Standard is a fresh food market, serving as a one-stop-shop for all your cheeses, cured meats, dips, vessels and everything else you’d ever want to cram on that little wooden board. Or if you’re after a shortcut, their deli department offers fresh and customised platter boxes. Products are sourced from local and international suppliers, with an emphasis on organic and top-quality food.

New Farm Deli | New Farm

It’s only fitting that across from Brisbane’s iconic picnic park sits the New Farm Deli. Since 1975, this cafe and deli has been providing some of the best charcuterie boards around, complete with cured meats, cheese, olives and home-baked bread. It’s hard to go past their ‘Picnic Box,’ offering everything you’ll need from sandwiches, dip, fruit, meats, cheese and even drinks! Otherwise, there’s a host of platter options on offer that are bound to taste great and look breathtakingly beautiful!

Lloyd’s General Store | Fortitude Valley

Café by day, intimate bar by night, get to know this little slice of heaven. Scoot out of the Valley’s busy nightlife into the rustic vibes of Lloyd’s to enjoy a platter piled with gourmet cheeses, charcuterie, olives, baguettes, pate and terrines. Paired perfectly with an organic or biodynamic wine, you’ll be set for what will feel like a quiet night in. You can even recreate it all by grabbing their cheeses and meats to-go, for a devilishly delicious night in.
