Brisbane's Best Acai Bowls: 2016 Edit

Check out the places that are nailing the berry-inspired health trend.

Acai. Ah-sigh-ee. Ah, I see something I really want to eat, like that acai bowl (Ha, see what we did there?) If you’re still pronouncing it ah-kai, there’s no shame. But it probably means you haven’t tasted these delicious berry bowls before.

Acai berries contain antioxidants, fibre and heart-healthy fats. Some studies call them the most superior of the berries, with more antioxidant content than other commonly eaten berries (take THAT, strawberries!) But the main reason we love blended acai is because it just tastes so damn good.

With more and more places jumping on the health trend and serving up raw, vegan and wholesome foods, it means more variety for you! Acai bowls now come in all different shapes, sizes, varieties and toppings, and we love them all. Acai equality! Here are some of our absolute favourites:

kiss the berry Brisbane acai bowls healthy

It wouldn’t be an acai list without recognising one of the originals. The girls at Kiss the Berry aren’t kidding when they call themselves acai specialists – they serve up some seriously amazing bowls. As Brisbane’s first store to focus on acai, smoothies and coffee, founders Sarah and Keziah know what they’re doing.

What started as a market stall has now grown to two prime locations in the Brisbane CBD and South Bank. Everything on the menu tastes amazing, but we have a soft spot for the Snickers Delight bowl: organic acai, banana, raw cacao powder, almond butter, coconut water and almond milk topped with handmade granola, banana, coconut, raspberries and raw cacao nibs. You know what they say – Snickers really satisfies.

Price range: $10.50 to $15.50
Location: Brisbane City: Shop 1/99 Creek St, Brisbane & South Bank: The ABC Building, Shop 65/114 Grey St, South Bank

Cocobliss Acai bowl is heaven in a bowl.

Bliss. Total bliss. That’s what we have to say about these bowls. There’s also a wide selection of delicious raw treats to satisfy your sweet tooth. The menu here is predominately raw, vegan, gluten-free, completely refined sugar-free, and suitably guilt-free!

Our favourite pick is the Bounty Bowl, with organic acai, banana and coconut water, topped with your choice of muesli, house mixed organic choc coco yoghurt, fresh banana, organic coconut flakes and organic cacao nibs. Feel no shame as you’re licking the bowl clean.

Price range: $12 to $13.50

Charlie's Raw Squeeze Acai Bowl

It's almost too pretty to eat! But we'll manage.

Located at the amazing Portside Wharf, Pineapple Express Superfood Café is a must-do for acai fanatics. Their bowls are loaded with acai and fresh fruits in big, sure-to-fill-your-tummy-size servings. Their breakfast bowl, our top pick, is filled with good stuff: acai, apple juice, banana, spinach, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, blueberries, granola, chia seeds and shredded coconut.

Beach House acai bowls, healthy, snacks

Beach House Health Bar Acai bowls. Even the bowls themselves are adorable!

Imagine yourself on a sunlit, warm beach, the salt in your hair and raw acai treats in your hands. That’s the vibe you’ll find at Beach House, another trendy little café serving up both brilliant bowls and frozen treats. With the motto “Eat, Drink, Chill”, it’s no surprise these guys create an amazing atmosphere with even more amazing food.

A glimpse into the menu includes acai, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, shakes, coffee, salad, sandwiches, soup (winter only) raw treats and frozen yogurt. Our top choice has to be the Antioxidant SuperBerry bowl, a blend of coconut water, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, acai berry and a touch of Low Fat Beach House Sorbet. Layered with their signature Beach House Granola and topped off with fresh strawberries, diced dates, goji berries and shredded coconut, this is a dish to die for.

This one’s a bit more of a drive, but if you happen to find yourself in Wellington Point, Acai Brothers is not to be missed. Repeat: YOU MUST TRY ACAI BROTHERS. Long-time friends Sam and Ben shared a mutual love for health and fitness, jumped into the hospitality game headfirst with Acai Brothers Superfood Bar – and they’ve absolutely nailed it.

The Acai Brothers Original Acai Bowl is a winner, with blended acai, buckinis and your choice of three fruits to top it off (options include banana, strawberry, pineapple, mango, passionfruit, kiwi, orange and rockmelon). This place is totally worth the drive.

Price range: From $11, with optional extras
Location: Shop 10, 683 Old Cleveland Rd East, State Route 46, Wellington Point

Miss Bliss Whole Foods Kitchen

Miss Bliss Whole Foods Kitchen's Not So Nutella Bliss Bowl.

Miss Bliss Wholefoods Kitchen is true to its name and serves up delicious, wholesome foods. Their two acai bowls are both too good to eat (not really, we’d devour them both in less than a minute). But our fave has to be the Not So Nutella Bliss Bowl. Because nutella and health! It’s a scrumptious blend of acai berries, cacao, banana, almond milk, choc bukinis and hazelnuts. It’s probably the most guilt-free “Not-ella” dish around.

Price range: $11 to $12
Location: 85 Vulture Street, West End
