This Is Everything You Need To Know About Brewsvegas 2018

Well, almost everything. ?

By Siobhan Taylor | 22nd February 2018

If you’ve been living under a rock the last couple of weeks, you might have missed this major nugget of news: Brewsvegas, Brisbane’s citywide, yearly celebration of our favourite elixir (beer—obviously) is returning to The River City this March! Whether you’re a beer nerd who loves to debate the difference between Indian and English pale ales, a foodie on the hunt for something delicious and new, or just someone who loves to check out everything happening around town, then Brewsvegas 2018 is for you.

Now in its fifth year, Brewsvegas is back bigger than ever, a reflection of Queensland’s thriving beer scene. The yeast & hops festival will be traversing Brisbane for almost an entire month, with more events than you can throw a tinnie at! We’re talking parties, drinking sessions, movie nights, recovery parties, pupper-friendly afternoons, showcases, classes, degustations, and so much more. Seriously, with more than 70 events covering 50 locations, you’re going to need a drink in hand if you’re going to get through this one.

We thought we would round up our pick of eight must-know events on the agenda this year to help you plan the next month of beer celebrations. So, grab a drink and join us as we toast to the best city in the world! (Although we may be biased…).

Full disclosure: with over 70 events happening throughout the festival, there’s no way these little journalists’ hands could have added every single one to this article. To make sure you don’t miss out on anything, check their site for the full lineup of events! If you’re looking for a beer fix in the meantime, make sure you check out our pick of the Brisbane breweries you should have cracked a cold one at already—honestly, it would be rude not to.

Beers With Bill | Wed, Mar 14

This year, Limelight Cinemas and All Inn Brewing are teaming up for a low-key event that has hump day brews written all over it. For $60, you can lounge around and enjoy one of the best movies ever, Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day, while tasting a selection of beers and bites from All Inn Brewing. Not a bad way to spend a Wednesday evening, we think.

Beer For Beginners | Wed, Mar 14

Maybe you’re a bit of a beer novice, interested in learning more about the golden brew we love so much. Or, maybe you’re something of a beer nerd who just wants to get a stronger grasp of the basics. Either way, Brendale Brewing Company’s Beer For Beginners evening is the perfect opportunity for you to learn something new or brush up on your brewing know-how. The evening will include an overview of the history of beer, an explanation of the brewing process, and a tasting of four of Brendale Brewing Co.’s core beers.

West End Progressive Dinner | Wed, Mar 14

Okay, this one is seriously cool. Starting at one end of the street, the progressive dinner will see you walking from Bosc to Catchment, then on to Brisbane Brewing Co before finishing up at Archive. At each brewery, you’ll be treated to one course and a brew, and a firsthand look at why West End is one of Brisbane’s most loved beer destinations.

Stone & Wood at The Old Museum | Sat, Mar 17

Once again, Stone & Wood is taking over The Old Museum with their ultimate backyard bash! Kicking off in the garden with fresh brews, a convoy of food trucks, and laneways of local market stalls, you can take in all the action of the party to the tune of live music. Sound good? It gets better. Going late into the night, you can also check out Bootleg Rascals at 8.30pm, with all profits raised going towards Oz Harvest, a not-for-profit helping those in need in Brisbane. This one is fun for the whole family, so bring the kids along too!

Latin American Street Party | Sat, Mar 17

All Inn is hosting their bangin’ street party once again, and this year it is set to be bigger than ever! With live music, dancing, mouthwatering Latin American food, free Salsa lessons, and plenty of bevvies on hand, this is going to be a street party unlike any you’ve been to before. Eats are available from midday until late, so head in early to make sure you can sample everything!

A Beery Good Search For A Su-paw-model! | Sat, Mar 17

Now’s your chance to be the stage mum you have always wanted to be. Doggo-loving café Atticus Finch is hosting their very own model search, and they want to see YOUR dog! All afternoon you can enjoy beers from the likes of Brewdog, Parrot Dog, Moon Dog and more (get it?), while your fur-friend can slurp on free bowls of dog beer. Then, the super staff will snap a pic of your pup for a public vote on who will be crowned Brisbane’s Best Su-paw-model! There are prizes up for grabs, so make sure you and your pup hightail it to Paddington.

6th Annual Chilli Cook Off at Kettle And Tin | Sun, Mar 18

Some of the best chefs in Brisbane will battle it out for Kettle and Tin’s Annual Chilli Cook Off! With live music, bloody Marys, a zombie costume competition (bizarre) and more chilli than we bet you can handle, this is easily one of the biggest events on the calendar.

Brewsvegas Beerlympics | Sun, 18 Mar

If you hit up Newstead Brewing Co.’s major Beerlympics last year, then you know that this is easily one of the biggest events on the calendar. It’s epic. Register a team of four and get ready to take part in an Olympic event big enough to rival the 100-meter final, as the Newstead Brewing Co. carpark is transformed into a giant inflatable obstacle course. Dodge friendly fire, deftly traverse the course and do your best to smash the 2017 records. The gauntlet has been thrown. Will you rise to the challenge?
