Drawing on previous experience, Bowen Arrow Café at Bowen Hills is the brainchild of Chris McBride and Anna Isermann, who previously worked together at the successful Stellarossa Cafe on Eagle Street Pier for six years.
The venue is still in its early days, having opened in May, with a temporary rotating menu to work on what is best for the customers and the store’s overall atmosphere.
The atmosphere thus far represents a minimalist industrial design style, with high ceilings, hanging lights, exposed brick walls, a mural of Bowen Hills in the 1930s and polished concrete. The amount of silver and dark metals used alongside the wooden walls and bench tops has influenced the Bowen Arrow look - and perhaps name.
Anna says the café will always host a rotating menu, as their chef loves putting new menu items on the forever-growing list.
The menu has an emphasis on fresh, healthy and seasonal produce and focuses around an all day breakfast and rotating gourmet salads and sandwiches, with raw treats and desserts made and sold in store.
“Our biggest hits so far are our bagels. We don’t focus solely on vegetarian or vegan meals, but we do have plenty of healthy veg options. We have a range of meats as well and do an awesome Bacon and Egg bagel,” Anna says.
Anna says everyone has been extremely patient and accommodating and they really appreciate the kind of people who are coming to the venue and leaving great feedback on Instagram while they are still perfecting the venue.
If their Instagram is anything to go by, they are dishing up some pretty impressive looking bagels at the moment, including salmon and cream, roast beef and pickles, bacon and egg, vegetarian bagels and their beautifully photographed cream cheese, fig and mint bagel.
