Australia Day couldn’t have fallen on a better day this year, blessing us all with a well-deserved long weekend after a solid three weeks of work. With the date change of the Hottest 100, Brisbane venues have gone all out with hosting some seriously epic parties across the weekend to help you make the most of the long weekend, no matter how you choose to celebrate.

The Fox Hotel

Known for throwing some of the most epic parties in Brisbane, it’s no surprise that The Fox Hotel are putting on an Australia Day event that guarantees to beat throwing a lazy 24-pack of thins on your barbie at home. The Fox Hotel are doing it right this year by offering a satisfying menu of Aussie eats that won’t break the bank either. You can expect to find $4 pizzas, $5 burgers and if you’re keen for a country-sized feast, you can cop a double burger for only $8 as part of their foodie happy hour, which will last ALL DAY. Kicking things off at 11.30am, get ready to celebrate the land we call home in true blue style with live music turning the party up a notch from 5pm.

The Defiant Duck

No strangers to an Australia Day party, The Defiant Duck are back on deck for another year. However, this time around The Duck is set to make the most of the long weekend by hosting a back-to-back party that won’t disappoint. On Friday, January 26, The Duck will be celebrating Australia Day in all its glory with a patriotic lamb on the spit as well as live music from 2pm. You’ll find roast lamb rolls with gravy and chips, $25 prawn buckets and other Aussie favourites on the grill as well as jug specials, local beers and frozen cocktails to keep you cool. And if you’re keen to back it up for Hottest 100 day, The Defiant Duck will be ready for round two with a huge party to celebrate the best beats of 2017. The Hottest 100 party will kick off at 11am and carry on ’til late. The best part? If you pick the top 10 songs of the countdown, The Duck will chuck you a $50 bar voucher.

The Glen Hotel

Do you think you could eat 12 mini meat pies in 45 seconds? If so, the The Glen Hotel’s Australia Day party is the event for you. Now in its third year, The Glen’s Australia Day Meat Pie Eating Contest has garnered a reputation for putting only the truest of blue blokes and sheilas to the test of becoming an honest Australian hero. Plus, the winner will come away with $500 cold hard cash. All you have to do is register online for $8 before Thursday, January 25. As well as the contest, guests will be treated to a day full of fair-dinkum Aussie lunch specials and cold craft and local beers on tap.

Big Screen on The Green

Eagle Farm Racecourse will be transformed into an Australiana-inspired garden party over the long weekend as it hosts Brisbane’s biggest Australian Open screening party. Take in all of the action of the AO tennis finals, which will be streamed live on the biggest screen in the southern hemisphere. Across both Saturday and Sunday you can expect to find live music, a gourmet food offering, giant lawn games and a jam-packed timetable of tennis matches.

Bar Spritz

Brisbane newcomer, Bar Spritz has officially taken the humble Aperol spritz to dizzying heights and we couldn’t think of a better spot to spend Australia Day. Situated atop Kangaroo Point (the spot Cliffs Café used to occupy), Bar Spritz will be putting on a live DJ from 3pm until 6pm with a selection of eats on offer from Pizzantica truck and Gelato 3 Wheeler, as well as an Amazonia Acai stand. If spritzers aren’t your thing, you will also find endless buckets of Peronis on offer, taking aperitivo hour to the next level.

The Story Bridge Hotel

It wouldn’t be Australia Day in Brisbane without our city’s much-loved Australia Day Festival at The Story Bridge Hotel. The festival will see Baildon Street (under the bridge) closed to make way for food trucks, live bands and a whole lot of entertainment including the iconic Brisbane pub’s 37th annual cockroach race, which has certainly earned its reputation for being one of Brisbane’s biggest Australia Day events. The first race scurries off at midday, with other highlights taking place throughout the day including the Miss Cocky contest and best-dressed team competition. All you need to bring is a gold coin donation, which will go directly to Youngcare.

Pig ‘N’ Whistle Brunswick Street

The Pig is ready to get the long weekend party started on Thursday night with a Summer Spritz Australia Day Eve Party kicking off at 5pm. With live music from 6pm in the beer garden and cheese platter and charcuterie board specials on offer, there is no doubt the Pig ‘N’ Whistle will have you easing you into the weekend the right way (with a spritz in hand).

If you’re looking for an Australia Day event that the whole family can enjoy, look no further than Victoria Park. With an endless schedule of fun activities throughout the day, including Aussie tug-o-war, sack races, a jumping castle, giant outdoor games and the kids’ playground open all day; the little ones are sure to be entertained all day long. Plus, there will be free soft serve ice cream, watermelon slices, face painting and live music. With Aussie roasts and pizzas on the menu for the day, be sure to make a booking for lunch as places will be limited.

The Elephant Hotel

Kicking off the Australia Day long weekend with a whole lotta rock ‘n’ roll, is none other than The Elephant Hotel with a live AC/DC Tribute band taking the stage from 9.30pm. On the public holiday, the good people at The Elephant will be hosting their popular live band rockaoke so you can belt out your fave Aussie bangers all day long. Darryl Braithwaite’s The Horses and John Farnham’s You’re the Voice guaranteed! The Elephant will also have a $15 lunch menu on offer as well as over 22 draught beers for you to get through without the public holiday surcharge! If you’re looking to kick on with the countdown on Saturday, you can bet The Elephant beer garden will be going off well into the night with back-to-back DJ’s after the countdown is done.

Dalgety’s Bogan Brunch will offer guests the option of a three-hour food and beverage package from 1pm with a menu that includes their own take on iconic Aussie food and drinks such as Fruitalexica, Passion-Pop, Goon snacks, Fosters & VB tallies and an all-Aussie beer tap lineup. There’s even a Dalgety lunch for ten up for grabs for the best-dressed bogan on the day.

Ric’s Bar

The Backyard at Ric’s Bar has long been a popular Brisbane hangout for anyone looking for an icy-cold beer and great tunes, so it’s no surprise that Ric’s are hosting an epic Backyard Party for the Hottest 100. The countdown will be streamed live in the backyard from midday and will be decked out with inflatable pools, beer pong and a mechanical surfboard, with a comp taking place throughout the day to find the best backyard surfer. The winner will even take home a vintage Coopers esky full of goodies. Plus, a Backyard Party wouldn’t be complete without a good old fashion BBQ and Ric’s will be putting one on for free from 12pm.

The Gabba

This Saturday, The Big Bash will take over The Gabba once again for an epic, fast-paced match that is set to heat things up. The Brisbane Heat will go head-to-head with Melbourne Renegades with tickets only starting at $48.
