Fashion, Victoria Beckham, fashion, Anna Wintour and fashion, five things that come to mind when you think of New York Fashion Week. But Brisbane isn’t usually a word you’d associate with THE event on the fashion calendar. Until now.
This year, the runway was home to two exclusive Australian-only runway shows with Brisbane’s own When Freddie Met Lilly taking their first steps in their international career. This amazing opportunity gave the local designers the chance to showcase their pieces to top US and international buyers (and, of course, Anna Wintour). Even before they walked the NYFW catwalk, the fashion line had a huge response.
The collection combined modern cuts and cool trends with internationally sourced fabrics (how fancy!). The garments focussed on European laces, pure silks, chiffon and Kebaya tulle; perfect for high-profile celebrities (Anna Wintour), brides and stylish individuals heading off to a super fancy-event (the kind that Anna Wintour would be invited to).
Designer and founder of this gorgeous brand, Vanessa Hoe, has been overwhelmed with the positive response the line has generated. “We couldn’t contain our excitement about the event, and are overwhelmed by the positive response received on our designs," Vanessa says.
“If you want a gown that oozes high fashion red carpet or old Hollywood glamour, or maybe a more classic look that is timeless or silhouettes from the world of Ancient Greece or Rome, then When Freddie Met Lilly is the label for you."
Since creating WFML, Vanessa has come a long way. Over the past five to six years, she’s has expanded her range to include casual, cocktail and formal dresses to bridesmaid and bridal gowns. And they already have a reputation for creating must-have pieces.
Aussie fashion agency, Fashion Palette co-ordinated the show and are committed to helping local Australian designers connect with industry professionals, consumers, media and most importantly, buyers.
