With the Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival well underway, on Saturday 26 May we’ll see Doomben Racecourse reach a dynamite level of entertainment with Treasury Brisbane Ladies Oaks Day.
If one thing can be said of Treasury Brisbane Ladies Oaks Day, it’s that the stakes aren’t only high on the race track but off the track, timeless style takes centre stage as the 'it girls' and dapper gents vie for the Best Dressed title at Fashions On The Field.
This weekend, Instagram it-girl and fitness guru, Steph Claire Smith will be attending her first ever Brisbane Racing Carnival event as the Raceday Ambassador and Fashions on the Field judge.
We had a quick chat with Steph to find out exactly how she’s been prepping for the big day and her trackside essentials.
How do you prep the morning of a big race day?
“I have a big nutritious brekkie so I’m fuelled for a long day on my feet! You don’t always have the chance to have a proper lunch or anything during the day so it’s best to start the day off with a good meal!”
Bold lip Vs Statement shadow
“I love keeping eye makeup pretty light so I’m going to go with a bold lip.”
Top Beauty Tip
“Drink lots of water to ensure your body is hydrated and prepped for a big day!”
How do you pull together a Winter Racing Carnival outfit?
“Easy! Blazers are in this season so now we can have an excuse to have a jacket! Also, pantsuits are such a cool way to look stylish and appropriate for a race day at the same time as being warm! I’d also opt for heeled boots over strappy heels to keep your feet warm.”
Can you give us a hint about your Ladies Oaks Day outfit?
“Nope hehe! But I have given you a few clues I suppose in my other answers!”
What are you most excited to see at Treasury Brisbane Ladies Oaks Day?
“I’ve never been to the races up in Brisbane, so I’m excited to see how it compares to Melbourne! I also just love people watching and LOVE seeing how other women show off their own style with race wear.”
What are your tips for picking a winning horse?
“I like to know who the top 5 horses are in a race and then visit them in the mounting yard last minute before the race! I don’t necessarily go for the ‘prettiest’ horse but I take note of their energy levels, how they’re trotting around and if they’re burning too much too quickly or even if they’re looking tired and slow.”
At this year’s Treasury Brisbane Ladies Oaks Day, punters will have the chance to rub shoulders with Steph and party after the last race with headliner Sheppard!
The Village at Doomben Racecourse is the buzzing hub of the Carnival where you can check out the QueensPlaza Fashions On The Field, and enjoy free makeup touch-ups at the pamper station and to feast on delicious dishes from many pop-up restaurants and bars.
As well as the usual race day shenanigans, this year BRC will be throwing it back to yesteryear with a free vintage-inspired Carnival Carousel, a two-storey merry-go-round featuring festoon lighting and old-time music on the public lawn. The ultimate spot to snap your perfect race day selfie.
