The Style Recap: Fashion News Worth Knowing This Week

This week in fashion

By Ella Passfield | 12th August 2025

We welcome August with open arms. Not only does it mark the end of winter, but it’s also a big month for fashion. Copenhagen Fashion Week kicked things off with incredible sustainability focused shows and eye catching street style. Here at home we are celebrating 20 years of the Brisbane Fashion Festival, and warmer weather means new styling opportunities.

Just Dropped: Collabs, Campaigns & Collections

Gail Sorronda celebrated 20 years of iconic Australian designs. The runway show took place right here in Brisbane, Gail Sorronda’s home town. From signature dark romance to rare, out-of-character pops of colour, CHROMOPHOBIA was a masterclass in fashion storytelling.

The new Mecca flagship store in Melbourne opened this week, becoming the largest stand alone beauty store in the world. Here you can find three whole levels of beauty and wellness. From makeup applications and brow transformations to an apothecary with an in-house naturopath and an interactive perfume gallery, this flagship has it all.

SPOTTED: Celebs, Style & Off-Duty Moments

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan touched down in Sydney for the Australian premiere of Freakier Friday. Lindsay was seen wearing a stunning sheer gown by Saint Laurent.

The Summer I Turned Pretty star, Lola Tung, also ventured down under wearing a gorgeous embroidered mini dress from Blumarine and jewellery from Dinosaur Designs.

Aussie label, VRG GRL, made a strong appearance at Copenhagen Fashion Week. The Devyn Sequin Lace skirt was spotted all over the streets, styled in many creative ways. The skirt was layered on top of trousers, styled as a set with a bikini top and shorts, or contrasted its sparkle with a boxy tee thrown on top.

TRENDING: Copenhagen Fashion Week

As the weather warms up we can turn to the Danish capital for inspiration on transeasonal dressing. CPFW saw many trends executed in streetwear, like scarves knotted at the waist, lots of lace, and belting.

Polka Dots

Who knew polka dots would have such a long standing return? Making a serious comeback last summer, this dotted print is here to stay. The pattern was seen from maxi dresses to hobo bags.

Flip Flops

The summer sandal of Australia: thongs. In the true Copenhagen spirit of laid back dressing, the flip flops emerged as the unexpected footwear hero. We saw thongs, from neutrals to bright reds and blues, worn with maxi skirts, denim shorts, and baggy jeans. So don’t just save your Havaianas for a beach day.

Wear Your Greens

With a strong focus on eco conscious practices in fashion, there is no surprise this week’s runways featured a lot of green. From floral prints, to woollen coats, shades of green were seen head to toe proving to be the colour trend of the season.
