Style had the pleasure of meeting Brisbane sisters from the independent band Sheppard, currently taking the music industry by storm with their hit singles ‘Geronimo’ and ‘Let Me Down Easy’, before they jet off to the UK, Europe and later L.A!
Amy, the lead vocalist, and Emma, the bassist, say Sheppard has helped their style evolve, and believe being on-stage has just allowed them to amplify their existing style.
Amy has recently taken on a new look with her blue hair and describes her style as "part grunge, part rock, with something a little bit different", mentioning she always wears her “awesome flares by Miracle Eye”.
As for Emma she says her style is solid colours and pastels or “anything that gives off a 60s or 90s vibe,” adding that sunglasses are her ultimate weakness.
Amy says the girls love finding quirky designers and boutiques. “We like to use a lot from Brisbane local designers because they always have really cool things, not so generic. We’ve been shopping at Blonde Venus for years now, we love it! It’s nice to find little unique quirky boutiques,” she says.
While on the Blonde Venus shoot with Amy and Emma, they listed some of their other favourite stores, including Soot, Aje, Isobel Baden (emma mentions they make awesome jewellery pieces- very mermaid esque!), Haut Boheme and Mango Rains, to name a few.
Emma says she was studying fashion before Sheppard and found she enjoyed the designing process, having designed a 60s dress for her course. “I haven’t taken it further since Sheppard, but maybe, hopefully, down the track I’ll do something!” Emma says.
Amy says the girls look to upcoming designers for inspiration, as they’re just trying to please themselves. “We follow a lot of bloggers too, including the house of W.I.P Girls on Instagram,” says Emma.
While on tour the girls recycle and swap clothes and customise looks with accessories. Currently their most treasured tour piece are their matching Metallic Tom Gunn ankle boots. “Amy has already gone through two pairs!” says Emma.
“We always have a jump in the change rooms when buying new performance clothes or accessories, to see if they’ll last on the stage,” says Amy.
During August the five-piece band will be going to the UK and Europe to do promotional radio stints and then V Festival, where Justin Timberlake and The Killers are headlining. They will then head to L.A , where there will meet with their new American manager Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber’s manager), with the girls mentioning they are more excited about a possible Ellen Show gig than meeting the ‘Biebz’.
