Maryon’s Shoes has been an iconic Brisbane shoe emporium since as long as I can remember, with boutiques now spanning across town including the elegant Brisbane Arcade, the fashion hub that is James Street, Rosalie for your outlet option and not to forget Main Beach for the out of Brisbane fans.
Since daughter of Maryon, the ever so stylish Claire Campell took the reigns as Director of the designer shoe heaven, the buying has taken a shift into the modern era of high end designer labels fused with edgy, accessible and fashion forward styles.
Today Celine, Givenchy, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Kenzo, just to name a few, grace the shelves of this timeless yet ever-evolving boutique.
Claire travels abroad four times a year to locations such as Paris, Milan and NYC on a buying adventure which results in the internationally and exclusive offerings we see on the shelves in the boutique today.
Whilst I like to imagine her simply shopping the designers showrooms every day of her trip, her time is spent with back to back appointments collating and curating the perfect buys for her client base back home and for the Australian climate. (That still sounds pretty fabulous if you ask me!)
She has said that upon entering each designer showroom she instantly feels the essence of what the brand is about.
Her favourite, being Armani, boasts purity, clean lines, cool tones of calming beige which she describes as a calming environment but grand all the same. Her relationship with this brand and showroom goes back decades and every visit is made more enjoyable by the warm and inviting staff.
Claire takes inspiration from not only what she sees in the fashion show rooms, but on the European streets, and when she has the time out of the busy buying schedule, she loves to see a runway show or catch up with her various international friends within the industry.
On her most recent trip to Paris and Milan she noted that prints and shapes have become more dramatic, with designers embracing clashing prints and textures and with this in mind acknowledged that the fashion boundaries have lessened for next Spring/Summer with people becoming more playful and adventurous than ever before!
I very much look forward to seeing how this inspiration from her recent travels translates to the collections we will see in the coming season at Maryons, and furthermore am delighted, as a tragic shoe and accessory addict myself, to witness the exciting evolution that Claire is at the forefront of with her influence on this Brisbane Fashion Powerhouse.
