How to Rock the Sports Luxe Look

How to Rock the Sports Luxe Look

Don’t worry – no workout required!

By Leith Wilson | 15th June 2016

The sports luxe look has been on my radar for quite some time. And with recent collections from Alexander Wang, P.E Nation and Cynthia Rowley, the trend isn’t leaving my graces anytime soon.

Naturally relaxed, this look is about throwing pieces together to achieve an athletic-meets-streamlined silhouette. But contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to don your gym clothes to complete your get-up. Here’s how to rock the sports luxe look without looking like a gym junkie.

Less is more

Sports luxe doesn’t have to be overdone. In fact, it should be approached with a comfortable yet functional mentality. To achieve an ultra-sophisticated vibe, try mixing relaxed and simplistic yet feminine styles. Think tapered striped pants with slim styled t-shirts or a sleek leather pencil skirt paired with a plain crop top and blouse.

Make it luxe

It’s called sports LUXE for a reason so don’t be afraid to jazz it up. I’m talking a pair of pointed stilettos, a structured blazer or a statement bag. Even the little things like a bold lip will add that little bit extra.

Don’t overdo the sports

You don’t want to look like you’re heading to a pump class, so forgo the sports tights, crop top and sports singlet. Instead, opt for a little dash of outdoor style. Whether that’s with a chic Nike cap, Adidas t-shirt or maybe just some Isabel Marant sneakers, it’s up to you!

Keep it streamlined

You don’t want to look like you’re wearing your TV lounge clothes out so try to avoid the super-baggy look. Instead, opt for just one oversized garment. This will still allow you to rock that casual chic vibe without looking like you’re wearing a paper bag. Remember, this look is about sports as well, so wearing sleek elasticated pants or straight-lined pencil skirts will radiate athleticism and make your legs go on forever.

Combine and clash

The look has been around for a while, so it’s time to have some fun and evolve your style. Think about adding in a laser-cut shirt, glitter sneakers or a ribbed skirt. You may even want to add a little life to your outfit by upping the colour combinations! Clashing a pastel pink blazer with a striking red cami is a great way to add a new element.

Don’t forget your shoes!

You want to put your best foot forward, so make sure you have the shoes to match! If you’re after a more chilled-out slouchy vibe, team your ensemble with laidback sneakers. White sneakers are a major trend this year and they’ll add a clean and fresh dimension. For a more glamourous feel, try adding a pair of bold and chic heels to create the perfect balance.
