Michelle Aznavorian was 19 when she started her first business; an eBay store selling second-hand designer clothes. By 22, she had self-funded her studies at the Melbourne School of Fashion and was ready to embark on another solo venture. And so, Misha Collection was born, growing into the household name it is today.

In 2016, Misha Collection debuted at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia and New York Fashion Week; making waves around the globe with the breathtaking collaborations with international supermodels Bella Hadid and Jourdan Dunn.

Now 27, Michelle has led the company to exceptional heights. It was no surprise then, when she was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year in the Emerging Category in November last year. We chat to Michelle about the keys to succeeding in business and being a downright #girlboss.

As an entrepreneur, what do you see as the keys to success?

You have to be extremely dedicated to ensuring your business continues to grow and prosper. I’m all about taking risks, and it has definitely paid off and made Misha the brand it is today. Having a strong team and clear vision from day one has helped Misha achieve success.

What advice do you have for anyone who might be considering launching their own business?

Don’t be afraid to get advice and knowledge from those who have done it before. They can be a really important asset.

What sort of businesswomen do you look to for inspiration?

Tory Burch inspires me. She started from her living room and built a multimillion-dollar business, selling high-end products at affordable prices.

You’ve seen tremendous international growth; how did it feel when you saw your designs worn by the likes of Gigi Hadid and Jennifer Lopez?

Seeing my designs on international celebrities and women I admire continues to be something I’m most proud of as a business owner.
