British fashion label Karen Millen has really ruffled things up with the launch of their latest seventies inspired campaign for the Autumn/Winter 2015 Australian Collection in February.
Starring an unlikely and edgy Sophie Turner aka the ever so angelic Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones, this collection is bound to excite more than the die hard ‘Throne Heads’. With an uber cool retro vibe, the collection pays homage to Karen Millen’s humble designer beginnings, featuring a very seventies East-London scenario, depicted through the speckled sepia lens of talented British fashion director/photographer Glen Lunchford.
The campaign sets up a smoky eyed Sophie Turner fronting a sexier look than her more recognised ‘damsel in distress’ character on Game of Thrones. With shots of a taxi jammed bustling through London alleyways, you’ll find Sophie taking us on a ‘journey’ through this fashion hub of a city as she struts unapologetically. The journey ends with Sophie striking a very salient pose in amongst a photo-shoot overlooking London’s prominent Brick Lane backdrop.
The prevalence of plaid and textured trenches is what teleports this collection back to the seventies. The balance of playful prints and classic silhouettes make the collection generationally versatile. This fresh new collection has successfully rebranded the label to appeal to the influential younger generations, with trendy openings of flagship stores on iconic boulevards of Knightsbridge London and Fifth Avenue Manhattan.
In a day and age where success can’t be determined by long hours and hard work but instead one's ‘Instagram’ appeal and number of ‘likes’, Karen Millen have definitely made the right move in booking one of the world's most talked about, twitted about, shared and followed television characters of current popular culture. Not only is having Sansa Stark as the face of the campaign a thing of pure genius, the Karen Millen collection for Autumn/Winter 2015 launches in Australia only a month off the much-anticipated upcoming release of Season 5 of Game of Thrones.
