50 Shades: The Colour We Saw Everywhere At Milan Fashion Week

Mr Grey Will See You Now

By Natalie McGowan | 28th February 2024

Associated with words like dull, bleak, and gloomy, you’d be forgiven for thinking grey is nothing but unremarkable. But one look at runway pics from the latest fashion week shows will tell you one thing: the tide has turned on this traditionally “boring” colour.

First spotted on Miu Miu’s runway way back in March of last year, major fashion houses like Fendi, Max Mara, and Gucci followed suit last week in Milan, with grey popping up in full force. And it wasn’t just the models sporting the colour, the world’s most fashionable attendees were papped in between shows in head-to-toe grey ensembles, proving once and for all that grey is the new black.

Contrary to popular belief, there are more than 50 shades of grey and we’ve just about seen them all now. From slate to steel, the colour is an embodiment of timelessness with a touch of edge, and with the lasting appeal of quiet luxury, it makes sense why everyone is gravitating towards it.
