Our Key Takeaways And Trends From The Global Fashion Weeks

The big four

By Kathryn Edmonds | 2nd October 2024

As the dust settles on the big four fashion weeks – New York, London, Milan, and Paris – it’s safe to say this season has left us wanting more.

From jaw-dropping runway moments to viral crazes that blew up our feeds, these fashion capitals have been serving *major* looks and serious inspo. We’re talking bold silhouettes, epic collabs, and street style that redefines the meaning of cool. Paris was all about effortless chic, New York brought the grit, Milan delivered pure luxury, and London, as always, kept it fearless and fun.

Ready to relive the highlights and catch up on the trends everyone’s buzzing about? Here are our key takeaways!

New York Fashion Week

Bold Textures

Proenza Schouler and Ralph Lauren both embraced bold fringing in their latest collections. Ralph Lauren’s Western-inspired lineup matched fringing with long-sleeved lace, while Proenza Schouler showcased stunning strapless dresses that stood out on their own. Meanwhile, Prabal Gurung created a dramatic vibe with an all-black ensemble, mixing soft leather with ethereal organza.

Oversized Vibes

Fashion Week is all about shaking up the modern scene with bold pieces and those statement oversized silhouettes. At NYFW we saw everything from super plush wool coats to dramatic organza capes, with designers really leaning into those larger-than-life looks to make a serious impact. Safe to say… we are obsessed!

Sheer Fabrics

Sheer fabrics are making waves again for SS25! Jason Wu wowed everyone with stunning floor-length tulle dresses, and Grace Ling brought a fresh twist with chic organza suits. Then, there’s Ralph Lauren, who took it up a notch with a dreamy, flowing maxi dress that just screams elegance.

Street Style

This year, skirts have taken centre stage for the fashion crowd, with sheer and lace styles popping up all over the place. Babba Rivera rocked a sleek monochrome look with a boxy black blazer and chic heels, while others opted for comfy oversized shirts or cozy knits to complete their outfits. It’s all about mixing styles and making a statement on the streets!

London Fashion Week

Shades of Green

While Brat Summer was all about those bright, eye-popping greens, the SS25 runways are taking a slightly softer turn, embracing the quieter vibes of muted matcha and pistachio shades. Tove wowed us with a gorgeous flowing silk gown, while Erdem opted for a timeless ballgown silhouette featuring a deeper pastel green.

Voluminous Silhouettes

Big, bold hems are back in the spotlight, with designers like Simone Rocha and Roksanda really stretching the limits on shape and proportion. It’s a daring shift away from last year’s softer, more muted colour schemes. This season, we saw an explosion of striking reds and vibrant pinks, all showcased through flowing tulle and luxurious silk.

Mini’s

Maxi lengths are definitely still current, but we couldn’t help but notice a delightful resurgence of 90s-inspired minis at JW Anderson, Emilia Wickstead, and Nensi Dojaka. Interestingly, the first two designers showcased almost identical cuts and styles, while Nensi Dojaka added its signature sultry twist with sheer fabrics. It’s fun to see these retro vibes coming back!

Street Style

With everything from tailored long shorts to maxi outerwear, the attendees have really nailed that ideal transitional look. Plus, the sport-inspired looks were out in full force with Londoners rocking everything from basketball shorts and moto jackets to sports jerseys.

Milan Fashion Week

Leather

Leather dominated at Gucci and Bally, where both brands are really shaking things up with this timeless fabric. At Gucci, we spotted some stunning head-to-toe ensembles that perfectly blended boldness with sophistication – think oversized coats paired with sleek pencil skirts and structured trousers. Bally took a slightly different route, opting for a polished vibe with dramatic leather coats and flawlessly tailored dresses.

Pink

Get ready because pink is set to take over next summer, making a bold transition from this season’s red. The runways were bursting with a spectrum of shades, but bubblegum pink truly shone the brightest. Our favourites, from Armani to Dolce & Gabbana and Jil Sander, all jumped on this playful colour, showing that it’s definitely a smart investment for the year ahead!

Corporate

The 90s office aesthetic is set to reclaim its throne as the new ‘geek chic’ for SS25. Imagine preppy pleated skirts paired with menswear ties or oversized blazers worn over daring plunging blouses – just like we spotted at the Max Mara showcase. It’s a fresh twist on a classic retro vibe!

Street Style

Milan’s street style consistently impresses. Oversized outerwear paired with tassels and mixed textures transformed neutral outfits into standout looks. Impeccable tailoring remained key to Milan’s polished aesthetic.

Paris Fashion Week

Billowy Silhouettes

At Paris Fashion Week SS25, designers embraced voluminous shapes for a sense of ease and fluidity. Loewe featured curvaceous lines, Hermès showcased flowing silk and linen dresses, Christopher Esber played with asymmetric hemlines, and Chloe used tulle and lace for a weightless effect. The trend highlighted both craftsmanship and feminine grace.

Oversized Suiting

Saint Laurent showcased razor-sharp suiting and bold shapes, Balmain leaned into military-inspired jackets and sculpted dresses, while Alexander McQueen focused on exaggerated proportions and corsetry. This trend emphasized refined, powerful silhouettes.

Military Metal

Rabanne stunned with metallic chainmail dresses, Acne Studios juxtaposed hard and soft materials like trench coats and sheer fabrics, while Ganni combined structured outerwear with feminine slip dresses for a modern, utilitarian edge.

The Viral Moments

The event was a dazzling spectacle, with a front row packed with stars like Cardi B and Brooklyn Beckham, and an electrifying runway featuring A-listers Kendall Jenner, Heidi Klum, and Cara Delevingne, who captivated the audience at the L’Oréal Paris show. Bella Hadid owned the catwalk for Saint Laurent, exuding confidence in a flawlessly tailored suit and sleek, pulled-back hair. The night was a true celebrity affair, drawing icons such as Kate Moss and her daughter Grace, Lenny Kravitz, and Natalie Portman, making it an unforgettable gathering of fashion and fame.

Street Style

Even though the week started off with rain, the fashion scene didn’t miss a beat. Animal prints in all their wild variations were everywhere, from the runways to the streets, bringing serious attitude. Bag charms swung as stylish guests dashed between shows, adding a playful vibe to the chaos. Oversized coats and billowing skirts made a major impact.
