The Statement Trend Swinging Onto The Scene At NYFW & Beyond

After adding movement to knee-length flapper dresses of the 1920s and the sleeves on country-western attire for decades, fringe is far from the outskirts in 2026, and it’s entering everyday style in a fabulous way.
From trim on jeans and jackets to hip scarves, belts, and handbags, to shirts and skirts, fringe is taking over in a big way. Is it a sign we are all ready to dance into the rest of the spring season? We think so.
A little bit disco, a little bit country-cool, no one can deny that fringe is synonymous with having fun with fashion. So swing those hips and get ready to unpack the fringe trend.
On the runway
Fringe was most recently and notably present down the runway at NYFW. For Ralph Lauren, fringe swung onto the scene through subtle trims and beaded skirt details. At Cult Gaia – where fringe has long been their middle name – long tassels draped from the hip to the floor on sultry summer dresses, or were gathered at the hip for a more fluid take on the cutout.
How we are styling
Fringe is finessing even the most basic everyday outfits right now. If you’re not quite game to have tassels draping from hip to floor, go for something more wearable and give fringe a contemporary edge with tasseled accessories.
As for eveningwear, pencil skirts are being adorned with beading and the hems of maxi dresses are getting a playful fringe twist. Be it the accessory that makes the outfit, the dress that instantly makes a statement, or a subtle DIY trim to up the ante on your fave pair of jeans, fringe is the trend on everybody’s hips.
