These Are The Best Places To Shop In The City According To 4 BNE Fashionistas

The girls in the know

By Astrid Taemets | 9th August 2023

When you think of Brisbane City, it’s not all suits and skyscrapers. From the tranquil Botanic Gardens and heritage-listed buildings, to the rich history, character bars, and boujee restaurants, The City is a bustling mecca of activity. And the shopping? Well, that’s just the icing on the cake.

Yes, it’s true! The City is home to a range of shops for all styles, tastes, and budgets, all the way from the high-end boutiques to the affordable everyday retailers. So, when you head to town, where are you shopping? From staple basics to statement pieces, we’ve got the scoop on where to shop and what for from four of Brissy’s most fashionable below.

Annabel Falco, Brisbane City fashion ambassador

Describe your personal style:

Masculine, layered, neutral. I’m all about the accessories.

What fashion trends are you loving right now and how are you wearing them?

  • Capsule wardrobe: I’m big on wardrobe basics and investing in quality capsule pieces, so the fact that this is a trend is both ironic and amazing.
  • Silver jewellery: I’m typically a gold girl, so I’ve really enjoyed experimenting with this one. I love being able to mix the two to create a unique look

Where are you shopping in Brisbane City?

For basics I can rely on, I’m heading to COS, and then DISSH for my fill of linen – both of which you’ll find in the Wintergarden. Then, I’m often found in QueensPlaza at Sass & Bide searching for knits, and David Jones for all my beauty needs. When I want to indulge in boujee additions, I’ll head to Saint Laurent for shoes.

Where are you fueling up?

Marchetti for coffee, always! Ichicban Sushi for lunch, and Banc Brasserie & Wine Bar for a drink!

Aicha Roberston, The Fashion Heist

Describe your personal style:

Unexpected, colourful, authentic.

What fashion trends are you loving right now and how are you wearing them?

  • Baggy jeans: Any style that’s big, baggy, and oversized I’m wearing with a baby tee. It’s like my own Bratz doll moment.
  • Denim: Just everything in denim please! Midi skirts, jackets, jeans, and coats. But on that, making it me. Following trends gets tiring, and I am really on a self-discovery journey with my fashion choices, so I’ve been in a more experimental fashion phase.

Where are you shopping in Brisbane City?

Laced on Adelaide Street because I am obsessed with their sneaker collection, and Subtype on Edward Street for all my streetwear style wants and needs.

Where are you fueling up?

I’m always first in line at Felix For Goodness – the vegans get it!

Rachael Kennedy, Content Creator

Describe your personal style:

Midweek, my style is very laid back, rotating through a very reliable capsule wardrobe of jeans, tanks, shirts, and blazers. I like to have fun dressing for events and holidays, usually in a statement look with a bit of spice.

What fashion trends are you loving right now and how are you wearing them?

  • Low-rise: I love this comfortable look so much – my sister is constantly calling me a Backstreet Boy with the way I have embraced a baggy jean and tank combo!
  • Sheer layering: I pair sheer tops with a relaxed jean or trouser, or for a night out, I will embrace a semi-sheer dress designed to show a hint of underwear.
  • Draping: I love a beautifully draped dress in jersey fabric. There is nothing more flattering or versatile!

Where are you shopping in Brisbane City?

For a splurge you will find me at Chanel in QueensPlaza hunting for a cult-favourite shoe. I am a sucker for Dinosaur Designs (located in the Wintergarden) – whether that be for a chunky bangle or serving dishes for home entertaining. To continue building my capsule wardrobe, you will find me in Wintergarden stores COS, and DISSH, and in QueensPlaza at Viktoria & Woods or Scanlan Theodore.

Where are you fueling up?

Rothwell’s is a tried and tested favourite of mine for a girls dinner or date night. Longtime Dining would be my pitstop of choice for a day of shopping.

Ashleigh D’Amico, The Green Wardrobe Consignment

Describe your personal style:

For everyday, comfort comes first. My looks tend to be relaxed, oversized, and polished, however I’m not adverse to a bold colour or figure-hugging moment for an event.

What fashion trends are you loving right now and how are you wearing them?

  • Longer line tops and vests: As the waistline on pants and skirts becomes lower, the tops are creeping down as well, and crops are taking more of a back seat.
  • Slouchy leather bags: We’re moving away from structured bags and embracing a more lived-in accessory.

Where are you shopping in Brisbane City?

When I’m looking to add interest to my look, you’ll find me at Dinosaur Designs in the Wintergarden admiring their modern and interesting accessories, and for pants and blazers I always make a beeline for Viktoria & Woods in QueensPlaza.

Where are you fueling up?

The Wolf and Alchemy Restaurant and Bar.
