Bodiccea online sportswear boutique is proving fashion and functionality can go hand in hand.

By Lucy Stephens | 7th November 2014

Named after Queen Bodiccea, a Celtic chieftain who led an uprising against Roman occupation, Bodiccea is a new Australian sportswear ‘one stop shop’ that embodies the power, strength and beauty of all women.

The bustling business is the brainchild of Allison Muller, an active Brisbane mum with a background in corporate finance and a love for functional – but fun – active wear.

But finding workout gear that fit the bill wasn’t always easy.

“I was always looking for stylish, high performance active wear that is ethically made and I wasn’t able to find what I was looking for [in the current Australian market],” she says.

“I also like to express my personal style and individuality in all of my outfits, and I was struggling to find active wear that allowed me to stand out from the crowd.”

During her travels and overseas work trips, she discovered just what she was looking for. So, she started to import some of the collections for her personal use.

With women continually asking Allison where she got her active gear from, she soon realized that numerous women expressed the same concerns, jumping on the opportunity to close the gap in the market.

So in September, her online store was born. She stocks a big range of stylish, high-performance gear; tights, full-length pants, 3/4 length pants, crop tops, sports bras and much more.

Bedrocks, Bouquet and Rainforest leggings, $89 each from Bodiccea.

“Bodiccea does the hard work for our customers by selecting the highest quality brands and ensuring that the end-to-end supply chain of each product is ethical and fair,” she says.

“In talking to women, we found a significant number were avoiding high impact exercise because they were unable to find a sports bra they felt was supportive enough to combat bounce.  Or they simply believed that breast and back pain after exercise were just to be expected.”

“We rigorously test each product to ensure that it meets our exceptionally high standards.  We work with all of our brands to curate a collection that is stylish, on-trend, will live up to the toughest workout and take their look from the gym to the street,” she says.

So, whether it’s pumping iron in the gym, bounding up your favourite mountain trail or pedaling along a scenic bike path, Bodiccea has styles and the support to appease even the most cynical of fashionista sportswomen, and has just signed up Beach Volleyball players Caitlyn Whittaker and Trish Morris as brand ambassadors.

Social responsibility is also at the core of Allison’s business focus. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, $5 was donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation from each pink bra sold from the range of Moving Comfort compression sports bras.

Like the infamous war general, Bodiccea is leading the uprising for ethical manufacturing, fair wages and equitable labour practices in fashion so you can battle in your Yoga class - guilt free.
