We all know the stakes are high when it comes to the race that stops the nation, but for me the racing fashion is the real winner.
Each year, different emerging racewear trends dictate our trackside outfits from head to toe. 2016 has brought with it many strong trends but there’s no denying that bold colours, big hats and over-accessorising have been the secret to nailing the ultimate trackside look this year.
Check out my favourite racing fashion looks from my two favourite race days of the year, Melbourne Cup and Derby Day:
The E! host has not lost her newly-wed glow, looking absolutely stunning in one of my favourite outfits of the day. I’m obsessed with this Rachel Gilbert dress; those sleeves are everything and the look is complete with Louboutins and a Viktoria Novak headpiece.
A Style office favourite, Brooke shines in her long-sleeved backless number by Thurley. She nailed this look with understated accessories that let her dress do all the talking!
Kate is the ultimate trackside veteran and she knows a thing or two about racewear, but I love that she constantly pushes the boundaries and takes risks with her trackside looks. This one has the office torn, but as a lover of Gucci I absolutely adore it! I love the ruffles and embellished accessories, as well has her Hatmaker crown, which works perfectly with this look.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for baby pink and this Asilio dress is no exception! I love how she toned down the colour with Aquazzura burgundy heels but kept it fun with the furry pompom trend! The Viktoria Novak crown also deserves an honourable mention!
She said it herself: this Nerida Winter hat has serious star power! Pip is the queen of effortless chic style and to be honest, I couldn’t image anyone else pulling off this look quite like her.
BEC HEWITT + VIKTORIA NOVAK
OK, first I need to take a moment to explain how much I LOVE Bec’s outfit! The Asian inspired floral-on-floral print dress with matching bomber jacket and headband is everything. For someone who tends to keep her outfits quite understated, the brave look really paid off. Although some beg to differ, this outfit is a winner for me and it’s only right to include the beautiful Viktoria Novak, whose meticulously handcrafted headwear adorns most of the trackside A-listers each raceday. She stuns in Dolce & Gabbana and one of her own crowns.
The Aussie actress opted for a beautiful form-fitting Marina Didovich frock complete with a Kim Fletcher bow and matching Aquazzura pumps. I love this dress and how she nailed it with little to no accessories and let the colour of the dress and her big bow do all the wowing.
I love a good power suit and Holly has absolutely nailed this Bianca Spender suit with Christie Millinery veil and YSL bag.
Jess killed it in her Melbourne Cup look, too, but her Derby Day look was my pick in her Carla Zampatti dress and Hatmaker millinery!
Although it was Nic’s first Derby Day experience, she is no rookie when it comes to fashion. The supermodel nailed both of her Derby Day looks (yes, she had an outfit change!) wearing Toni Maticevski for both and explained that her looks were inspired by Vogue covers, Victorian dresses and her favourite film, Gangs of New York!
Taking the bedroom to the track has never looked so good! Elyse looks so chic in her Misha Collection jumpsuit that is a standout with her Baby Likes To Pony corset and choker. I love the addition of the understated headband and gold Holly Ryan Jewellery earrings.
BAMBI NORTHWOOD BLYTH
I don’t think anyone could ever really go wrong in Zimmermann and Bambi proves that in the beautiful Bowerbird Lovers dress from their upcoming Spring 2017 collection. The off-the-shoulder lace and silk frock cinches and flows in all the right places! The touch of Gucci with the statement handbag is the perfect addition to break up this look.
Having a Myer moment… Aisha looked stunning in this structured Steven Khalil long-sleeved jumpsuit that is the perfect take on the power suit. The Ezara Jennings hat is the ultimate statement piece that gave this look its wow factor.
I adore this Derby Day look. It proves that no matter what you wear, the right accessories can make your outfit. She wears a long-sleeved Revolve mini that is a standout with her Chanel boater and Gucci handbag.
This Asilio dress is definitely one of my favourites. I love how it looks like three different dresses layered all together to create one outfit. Her slick pony and hairpiece combined with the perfect pair of Tony Bianco booties creates the ideal understated details that create one hell of a look. I love it!
And what would this list be without mentioning Style Magazines’ leading lady, Christie Sutherland? She nails the black and white dress code in her structural Asilio dress, Allport Millinery and Wittner pumps. What a glamour!
