Best Moments from the 2017 Oscars Red Carpet

City of stars, are you shining just for me?

The Academy Awards always demands worldwide attention, and this year is no exception. So much happened yesterday, from La La Land winning Best Picture for a whole two seconds right through to the blue ribbon that made iconic Oscars red carpet appearances on a number of celebs.

Here is a rundown of all the 2017 Oscars red carpet moments you need to know about.

Emma Stone

The La La Land star and Best Actress winner is no stranger to the Oscars red carpet, but this year it wasn’t just her show-stopping performance that had everyone talking.

Emma Stone stood out in a gold Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci dress. The body-hugging gown with tiered fringing was the perfect balance of modern-day glamour with a touch of flapper, giving her the ultimate golden girl status.

Emma kept her hair simple with soft waves tucked behind one ear and her makeup bold with a warm smoky eye and deep lip colour (Audacious Lipstick in Mona by NARS). Her longtime makeup artist (Rachel Goodwin) never fails – the same artist was behind Brie Larson’s winning makeup look at last year’s Oscars. Looks like Rachel’s makeup artistry could be a good luck charm!

Olivia Culpo

This Marchesa dress is an undeniable favourite, and Olivia has nailed her look with a simple updo and soft lavender shadow on her eyes. What makes this dress even more beautiful is that the beading is made from Stella Artois Limited-Edition Chalices. Each bead sold helps provide five years of clean water to someone in the developing world. Fashion for a good cause is the best kind of fashion.

Kirsten Dunst

This all-black custom Dior Haute Couture gown is a classic look that the Hidden Figures star has rocked to perfection with Niwaka Fine Jewelry diamonds and Christian Lacroix heels. Dunst kept her hair loose in a soft updo and complemented her entire look with a dark smoky eye and bold red lip. Although some say this look is safe, it is one of my favourites from the Oscars red carpet!

Janelle Monáe

Everyone step aside, because this epic Elie Saab dress is coming through. The Hidden Figures actress rocked this gown with confidence and looked absolutely stunning doing so.

Emma Roberts

This year, Emma Roberts opted for a breathtaking Armani gown from the first Privé collection in 2005. The spaghetti strap couture dress featured a dramatic plunging bodice and was selected as a result of the actress working alongside @redcarpetgreendress to bring together an unforgettable sustainable red carpet look.

Karlie Kloss

The supermodel was a vision in Stella McCartney. However, it wasn’t just her white caped gown that had heads turning. Along with best actress nominee Ruth Negga and Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, Karlie Kloss wore a blue ribbon as part of the Stand with ACLU initiative.

The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) is a national organisation that works to defend the civil liberties guaranteed by the constitution – which means that they’re totally against Donald Trump’s immigration ban. Since Trump signed the order in January, ACLU has received nearly $25 million in donations.

Ruth Negga

Finding the perfect dress to wear to the Oscars would be hard enough, but when you’re nominated for Best Actress, the pressure’s on. Ruth Negga absolutely nailed her Oscars red carpet look with a long-sleeved Valentino number, complete with her best accessory: a blue ACLU ribbon.

Jessica Biel

Her husband Justin Timberlake calls her “perfection” and we could not agree more. The actress stunned in a long-sleeved KaufmanFranco ensemble and Tiffany jewellery. Her hair was kept simple and sleek, while her makeup remained mostly minimal, but before long many will be attempting to recreate Jessica’s bold block eyeliner.

Brie Larson

Last year’s Best Actress winner Brie Larson took to the red carpet in a custom black velvet Oscar de la Renta gown with Neil Lane diamonds and Aquazzura heels.

Dakota Johnson

This golden Gucci gown may have divided red carpet critics, but I feel like it would be a crime to not include this bold look as I think Dakota is the only gal who could pull it off. Whether you love it or hate, no one can deny it’s a show-stopper!

Chrissy Teigen

It’s no surprise that Chrissy and her La La Land star hubby John Legend are making an appearance on this list. The confident couple are always the definition of #couplegoals and this year’s Oscars red carpet is no exception. One can only assume the Zuhair Murad gown was made for Chrissy, and it’s clear her hubby thinks so too!

Hailee Steinfeld

Just when you thought Hailee Steinfeld’s Ralph & Russo Haute Couture gown couldn’t get anymore beautiful, she turned around to show the intricate detailing of ruffles cascading down her spine. Hailee kept her glam look minimal with peachy makeup and a neat updo that let her amazing dress do all of the talking. This look is definitely one for the Oscars red carpet history books.
