8 Creative Ways Cool Girls Are Spicing Up Their Wardrobes Right Now

shake it up

By Victoria Lewis | 26th March 2026

Do you ever come across a girl on your Instagram explore page and think, “How did she think of that outfit?” The effortless pairing of unexpected pieces, proportions that fall in all the right places, creating interest in a look without being showy. For me personally, this is a nightly occurrence.

Getting creative in this awkward transitional period between summer and autumn can be tough for even the most savvy fashionistas. Don’t get in a midseason slump; instead, revamp your wardrobe with these key pieces, trends, and styling tips inspired by the street style of the coolest girls on our feeds. We’re not here for gatekeeping our IG saved folders, so here are eight creative ways to style your wardrobe right now that you (or I) didn’t have to think of first – for you to put your own personal spin on, of course.

It’s time to get your styling spark back.

1. Skirt over pants

Gosh, if there’s one thing the fashion girls can’t get enough of this season, it is unanimously layering skirts over pants. And before you say “no way, José”, hear me out. This one is actually an easier trend to style than you think, and you’ve probably already got the pieces in your wardrobe. Sometimes, less is more, but not this season; it’s all about layers on layers. Personally, I find it less of a statement to pair silky trousers under a sheer maxi or tunic, or a skirt and trousers in the same fabric for some subtle layering.

Another way to put your own twist on this trend is to take a silk scarf or bandana and wrap it around the hips. Don’t be afraid to play with pattern here, too – a white tank, jeans, and a vibrant, silky scarf is absolutely the move.

2. Knit or no knit – that is the question

Call it preppy or call it cool-girl – whichever way you swing, this might just be the simplest way to add some interest to the simplest of looks. In these limbo months where one moment it’s warm and the next it’s chilly, a knit jumper around the waist or slung over the shoulders will never go amiss. It’s the timeless basic every girl needs in their wardrobe: a good quality, mid-weight knit. And who does timeless style better than Aussie fave DISSH? I, for one, am completely infatuated with the way the below pop of red on the waist elevates a simple blazer-and-trouser look – très chic.

And for a touch of extra edge, switch out the knit for a flannel-style shirt. Not only a great way to introduce some pattern play into the look, but a nice way to get more use out of a tried-and-true staple.

3. Backwards day

Because 2026 is the year of thinking outside of the box with your pieces, why not channel it-girl Christina Chenii in her all-DISSH ensemble? Ever so clever, use your skip skirt as a stepless tunic and layer pants for an extra touch of warmth.

Both edgy and easy to execute, this styling hack will see your slinky slips transition seamlessly into autumn. Just add a trench or oversized bomber if your shoulders get chilly.

4. The sculpted shoulder

Now that the weather is finally calm enough for the reintroduction of long sleeves into your regular rotation, the internet’s fashion-obsessed are diving into a sculpted silhouette. Despite the common misconception, exaggerating the shoulders actually has a slimming reverse effect, so say hello to the illusion of a tiny waist. Still not convinced? Dip your toe into this curved form with a sculpted cotton button-up you can throw over jeans. This way, you can feel a little more put together without doing a complete style 180 – slouchy but elevated.

Heads up: pair this exaggerated form with a 3/4 capri for the ultimate ’90s chic ensemble.

5. Collarless outerwear

A subtle shift toward an age-old classic, the collarless blazer is adding a touch of class this season. Harnessing the much-loved silhouette from the ‘6os and transporting it forward for the modern-day woman, it’s elegant on its own or with a standard collar peeking out over the top. In short, this is the silhouette that instantly elevates even the simplest of looks.

Wear with a matching short for these last few weeks of warmer weather, then transition into a long coat version for winter (this DISSH piece below needs no introduction).

6. Daytime sheer

Yes, the sheer moment has been around for a while, but now it’s coming to daytime dressing. To make a transparent fabric appropriate for everyday, go for a sheer skirt with an inbuilt slip – perfectly modest and easy to pair with a simple tank and slides. Yet, if you’re feeling a little bit more daring, let your bra become part of the outfit with a semi-sheer tee or tank, or choose something with a little more body, like this balloon top from DISSH – subtle, yet striking.

7. Boots and a micro

Proportion play at its finest, dust off your sleekest pair of knee-high boots and pair with your favourite summer mini dress, skirt, or microshort. Trust us, it’s a juxtaposition that works. And the best part is, when winter finally comes out to play, grab a pair of sheer tights (our recommendation is a brown shade over black) so you can strut your stuff and stay warm.

8. Unusual accessories

Pendants, head scarves, and hats, oh my! The IG fashion girls have spoken and ’tis the season to play with accessories. When your wardrobe is mostly neutrals, go for an eye-catching pendant. Another ’90s influence on modern-day dressing, these black leather necklaces really do the talking.

Or, turn a plainer outfit into a head-turner with a chic hat or silky bandana draped over the forehead. Hiding a bad hair day and elevating the look – sign me up!

So, there you have it. We hope this guide helps you to get your styling groove back just in time for autumn. But if you’re still needing more inspo, mosey on over to DISSH’s website for all your wardrobe needs (and wants).
