5 Trends We’re Taking Home From Australian Fashion Week 2025

Take notes

Finishing the week with an incredible closing show by Romance Was Born, Australian Fashion Week wowed us with a true celebration of Australian style. Off the runway, Carriageworks came alive with just as influential streetwear looks. From unexpected pops of colour to a return to tailoring, here are the standout trends we’re taking with us.

A touch of red

Whether it’s a crimson ballet flat or the trim of a dress, red popped up everywhere. The bold colour can truly elevate the most understated outfit. Try breaking up a classic white tee and jeans with a fun cherry-red sweater or let a pair of bright red socks peek out from under trousers.

Tailoring and Ties

Given the recent theme of ‘Tailored for You’ at the Met Gala, it comes to no surprise that tailoring took over the street style scene at Carriageworks. Oversized blazers, exaggerated shoulders, and statement ties were everywhere. Mix the masculine with the feminine by pairing a structured blazer with a playful mini skirt.

Lace, layers, & romantic dressing

With designers like Beare Park and Lee Mathews showcasing soft, feminine silhouettes, romantic dressing had a major comeback. Pair lace pants with a structured blazer or let a lace camisole peek out from under a sharp suit jacket. And with Sydney unexpectedly basking in sunshine all week, these breezy, light-catching fabrics felt perfectly timed.

Big bags & charm

Now your accessory needs an accessory. Oversized clutches and slouchy bags were spotted all over Sydney, decorated with brooches, claw clips, necklaces, keychains and silk scarves. One standout was the cult-favourite Labubu keychains found swinging off every bag in Carriageworks.

Bombers

The bomber jacket claimed its spot as the go-to outerwear of the season. Paired with tailored pants or a silk skirt, the bomber adds a sleek, utilitarian edge to every outfit. And during the week of unpredictable sun and rain, the bomber offered the perfect transitional layer.

Many other trends were spotted throughout the week. Micro shorts remained popular despite the colder weather. Western revival was seen in full swing with fringing on jackets, bags, and dresses. And of course, chunky bangles, whether stacked over sleeves or worn solo, made a maximalist return.

Have we already added to cart? Absolutely. Are we already dreaming about what next year will bring? Most certainly.
