Meet The Power Pair Behind Aussie Jewellery Label Loved By Dua Lipa & Sydney Sweeney
Behind the bling
By Victoria Lewis | 24th April 2025Meet BFFs Ashton and Audrey, aka the dynamic duo behind statement jewellery label, Mountain & Moon. Welcome to their world – “it’s dramatic, it’s bold and always fabulous”.
These two style icons ooze effortless cool-girl vibes, with their unique designs the perfect complement to their maximalist aesthetic (giving us serious outfit envy).
This pair of business dynamos are a decade into the jewellery biz, but they’re only just getting started. With an unapologetic spirit and female empowerment at the heart of the brand, Mountain & Moon has been spotted on stars like Sydney Sweeney and Dua Lipa *swoon*. For these two, no mountain is too high.
Each of Ashton and Audrey’s handmade pieces tells a story, and now it’s time to hear theirs – we caught up with the girls and chatted all things Mountain & Moon, from style advice, to design inspo and business BTS.
Can you share your earliest fashion memories – the moments that first sparked your love for style and design?
Audrey: I remember making my fashion choices from a very young age and being very stubborn about what I wore. My mum dressed me very cute and in a lot of iconic matching Osh Kosh pieces but once I realised I could choose for myself it became all very 90s cool, lots of chokers and beaded bracelets, skirts over pants etc. I was very influenced by girly pop groups and then vintage rock and roll. I realised how much I enjoyed styling and accessorise from an early age and loved to mix and match trends and eras, with jewels and accessories always being a huge focus.
Ashton: My earliest fashion memories are of my mother and the way she used to get dressed, the jewellery she wore and her rituals of getting ready. She absolutely adored dressing me in girly frilly dresses with bows and very put together socks and shoes. I was born and raised in India so I had that strong culture that I experienced every single day, the strong colours, the traditional dress, and the prominent jewellery. Those elements combined with my starting points in such a cultural melting pot, trickled through my style over the years and to this day still influence what I choose to wear.
What inspired you to take the leap and start a jewellery business?
Audrey: The inspiration came from wanting to travel the world and have a creative outlet that could help us do so. Starting a brand felt like the natural way to be able to achieve that, and as enthusiastic 25-year-olds, doing this alongside your best friend sounded like the perfect way to live our life. A defining trip to India and a chance meeting with a traditional jewellery artisan spiralled into starting a brand at a time that it wasn’t actually planned, but in a way it was perfect timing and something we both wanted and needed for our life trajectory.
Ashton: Being Greek & Indian, jewellery is such a strong part of our culture so we naturally both always had a penchant for maximalist accessories and layering vintage and contemporary pieces together that we gathered over the years or were passed down from our mothers and grandmothers. Gold jewellery was always prominent in our families and we grew up watching the women in our lives layer their jewels and treasures. We have always been inspired by vintage and antique jewellery and treasured our jewellery boxes more than our closets in a way. We could see there was a lack of statement jewellery brands out there that spoke to our aesthetic, it was all very minimal at the time. We have always believed in the ethos ‘more is more’ and we felt it was the time to take the opportunity to create something and build a community of women who loved what we loved.
Where do you get your design inspiration from? Any muses that influence your collections?
A&A: We often look to the past, we are obsessed with vintage and antique pieces, whether its jewellery, art, furniture or design and our gemstone palettes often reflect this too. We are equally as inspired by our own cultures, and you can see the mix of the European and the Indian aesthetics melding together in our signature textures and flourishes. Additionally, travel has always been a big inspiration for us and you will see this reflected in our collections over the years, depending on where we have been lucky enough to adventure through.
Mountain & Moon is all about bold, statement pieces that exude confidence. What advice do you have for people looking to embrace their own unapologetic style?
Audrey: Don’t feel like you have to just have one style, you can wake up and wear whatever you feel like that day whether it’s minimalist, maximalist or in between. Don’t worship trends or buy fast fashion, shop independent designers and vintage, and wear more jewels. Jewels will always elevate your outfit!
Ashton: Trust your gut, go with pieces that make you feel beautiful and confident, whether they are on trend or not. It’s how a piece of clothing or jewellery makes you feel that’s most important. I tend to know the styles, cuts and pieces that I always feel good in, and I follow that formula whenever I shop, adding to my wardrobe similar styles in varied colours and prints. It makes getting dressed much easier when you already know what works. And always add jewels, I repeat, always add jewels.
What’s your go-to night-out look right now, and which MM pieces are essential for styling it?
Audrey: I’ve got this Reformation skirt & corset top that I’m obsessed with at the moment. I wear that set with my cowboy boots, and then style with a mixed metal look, the Monroe or Quinn Earrings, the Ivy and the Ada Necklace, and a stack of gold & silver rings.
Ashton: I’m forever in my little black dress era. It’s chic and timeless and I let the jewels do the talking. I’m currently pairing with the silver Georgette Earrings and the Ivy, Addison and Harley necklaces layered.
Your designs have been worn by icons like Sydney Sweeney, Winnie Harlow, and Dua Lipa. What was your “we’ve made it” moment?
A&A: We still don’t think we have ‘made it’. Imposter syndrome can be so real! But when we started spotting girls out and about wearing MM everywhere we went, we realised we were onto something special. We started to get known for certain earring styles that are still bestsellers in the collection, and that’s such a cool feeling when you know that women are feeling so stunning in your pieces that they choose to wear them over and over again.
Your partnership with the Saheli Women Foundation in India is such a powerful initiative. How does female empowerment shape Mountain & Moon’s brand ethos? A&A: Female empowerment is the main pillar of our brand. We feel that we are a truly authentic brand whose mission from the beginning was to elevate and empower women through creating stunning pieces that instill confidence and foster a sense of community. Jewellery is such a meaningful thing to people in so many different ways. It can be an heirloom, a form of family connection, filled with memories, or used for instilling confidence and elevating the everyday. It can also simply just be the cherry on top of your outfit. It is such a powerful addition to the ritual of getting dressed every day and can completely transform the way you look and feel. When we feel stunning, we feel confident and then go on to feel more empowered and additionally, these feelings can be used as a stepping stone help empower others around us at the same time.
Our partnership with Saheli is really important to us and something we built into the brand right from the beginning, as we never just wanted to put more product out there into the world without intention; there needed to be meaning behind it to make it feel powerful to us. Partnering with the Saheli Women Foundation in India means that there is power in every purchase. Our commitment to Saheli Women means reinvesting a percentage of our sales into their projects as well as providing job opportunities through their sewing work for us.
Running a business for 10 years is no small feat. What keeps you going today?
A&A: We love running Mountain & Moon today just as much as we did when we first started. It feels like we have come so far and grown so much over the last ten years, but at the same time, we have the same enthusiasm and joy for what we create every day. Building a community of women is so important to us and drives us to continue creating this little world of MM that we want everyone to feel welcome in. As we have entered the motherhood era of our lives, the drive to grow the brand has become more meaningful to us and is forever filled with intention. To be able to show our daughters that our career can be so fulfilling and that we really love showing up to work every day is something we both want to impress on our children.
