Arthur Galan is a rare breed in fashion – he doesn’t court the spotlight, he understands the business of fashion as thoroughly as he knows the creative side and his brand has been getting stronger every year since he began in 1998.
The designer was an instant hit in his hometown of Melbourne when he launched onto the scene with menswear but it wasn’t until he released his womenswear collections in 2006 that he began, in earnest, his climb to the top of the Australian designer tree.
Since signing with Myer in 2011, the label has grown into one of the country’s most recognized names, with his signature of quality fabrics and timeless design earning him a loyal fan base and 22 stores.
Arthur’s wife of 16 years, Mimi Galan, is also instrumental in the business; the pair married the day after their second store opened in Melbourne. Arthur comes from a family of tailors but studied commerce at Melbourne University before coming back to the fashion industry. The pair have two children.
This year Arthur Galan was named Australian Fashion Laureate for Best Menswear Brand and, on Friday September 12, Brisbane has the chance to meet him in person as he brings his summer collection to town for an exclusive lunch and parade in The Rainbow Room at Cloudland in aid of the Same Sky charity from 12pm to 3pm.
