Alix Higgins Resort 27 Is A Reminder You Can Be Everything At Once
The freedom to be yourself
By Kiri Johnston | 26th October 2026Who says you have to fit into one box? You can be romantic, rebellious, playful, and a little bit of everything, all at once. Australian designer Alix Higgins is embracing it all with his Resort 2027 collection, An Opening Voluntary. Bringing together French florals, underwater creatures, punk influences, and a healthy dose of make believe, it’s a celebration of dressing up and the freedom to be whoever you want to be.

First unveiled at Australian Fashion Week in May, Higgins presented the collection at Sydney’s China Heights Gallery for his fifth solo showcase. The presentation also saw the designer collaborate with London based tech brand Nothing, incorporating its futuristic hardware into his digitally driven designs. Now officially launched, the collection brings his playful approach to fashion beyond the runway.
“It’s a bit childish, a bit pretend ladylike – a bit me as a young boy dressing up and trying to be a superhero and a surfer,” Higgins says of the collection. And really, why should you have to choose? There’s freedom in embracing all the different layers and sides of yourself, even the ones that don’t necessarily go together.

Drawing inspiration from Werrong Beach in Sydney’s Royal National Park, Higgins brings the ocean into his world of fashion, with orcas, clownfish, and seahorses swimming across graphic prints. These aquatic references sit alongside eighteenth century French florals and porcelain motifs, bringing together seaside nostalgia and European romance. It’s an unlikely combination, but that’s part of the fun.
Then there’s the clothing itself. Silk chiffon, lace, velvet, and floral rosettes bring the romance, while raw hems, exaggerated proportions, and reconstructed silhouettes add a little rebellion. Higgins’ signature upcycled polo shirts make another appearance, this time reimagined as skirts, with graphic text, digitised textures, and vivid colour adding to the mix.

Delicate lace meets sporty references, pretty florals sit alongside unfinished edges, and traditionally feminine details are paired with a punk attitude. There’s no single aesthetic to follow here, and that’s precisely the point. One day you might want to dress like a romantic, the next like a rebel, or perhaps a little of both before you’ve even left the house.
Officially launched on 23 October, An Opening Voluntary is a reminder that fashion can still be wonderfully weird, playful, and full of personality. After all, who says you can’t be a superhero, a surfer, and a little bit ladylike all at once?
