Getting out of bed in winter is like trying to tread freezing cold water. You’re in a panic, can’t go on and you’re wondering how the eff you got there (weirdest analogy I’ve come up with but just go with it). To make getting out of bed just that little bit more bearable, I’ve put together the best ways to warm up your winter fashion so you can hop out of bed and straight into a warm outfit. You’re WELCOME.
Chambray Shirts
Chambray shirts are the perfect wardrobe staple - they’re light enough to wear on their own, underneath a wooly jumper, over the top of a top or even around your waist! They’re also the perfect length to tuck into jeans, pants or a skirt and always look killer! If it warms up during the day, you can always roll up your sleeves while still looking effortless. Wear this with skinny jeans (denim on denim is hot!) and ankle boots or sneakers. If it’s reeeally cold out, chuck on a camel, grey or black coat to keep you warm.
Blazers
This is a no-brainer! Every girl should have a blazer in their wardrobe – one that fits nicely but is thick enough to keep you warm throughout the cold season, whether you’re heading to an event or out to dinner with friends. Dress up with a plain white blouse, cigarette pants or flares and heels for a fabulous evening look. If you already have a black blazer and want to extend your winter wardrobe, try changing things up a little with a white or olive colour.
Scarves
Winter fashion wouldn’t be complete without a scarf! It’s the perfect go-to accessory when you head out the door and vibrant colours can brighten up dull winter outfits while adding extra dimension to your look. Whether you want a light one for a bit of difference or a thicker one to make sure your neck doesn’t freeze, you can’t go wrong! Try paring it back with black skinny jeans and a dark winter coat to make sure you’re super cosy and ready to conquer the cold!
Capes
This is a chic fashion piece you should definitely invest in. Capes are simple, add great dimension and come in a range of amazing styles and colours. Most importantly, they can be taken from day to night with ease. Wear your cape with leather leggings and heels for a touch of elegant style. Crisp white capes look classy, luxe and help you step away from darker tones over the cold months. Add some fabulous sunglasses during the day and a rock a bold lip at night.
Long-sleeve shirts
Long-sleeve shirts are going to save yo’ life if you’re braving those cold mornings and evenings. For extra warmth, grab a few with a turtleneck. That way, you can ditch the scarf and still stay warm! For those extra chilly days, layer with a knit jumper, jeans and knee-high boots. You’ll be comfortable and it’ll be a saving grace for windy mornings. Strip them off for night and wear tights under a suede skirt.
Knee-high boots
These boots are a MUST when it comes to winter footwear! They always look amazing, elongate your pins and ultimately keep you warm. There are so many ways you can style these, depending on whether you want a pair with or without a heel - or just get both!
During the day, I like to opt for a knee-high boot with jeans to keep me super warm. For night, show off those legs and snap up a pair with a heel! They look amazing with short knit dresses and if you’re on the shorter side of life (like me) then you’ll love the height and optical illusion they add.
Skinny jeans
I can never imagine skinny jeans going out of style. They’re an absolute basic for everyday life - winter or not! When the temperature has dropped and you’re crawling around your room while it’s still dark in the morning, reaching skinny jeans is like finding a pot of gold under the rainbow. YES! You’re going to be warm! YES! You can show off your fab figure!
These are perfect to wear with boots of any kind and are an everyday staple you can’t go without! If you like a bit of edge, go for some with distressed detailing. (Just be aware you may get cold knees - that sounds ridiculous but it’s SO uncomfortable!) There’s also nothing better than finding a pair of jeans that fit like a glove.
