5 body art trends that aren't permanent

Not game to get a tattoo? These body art options let you express your creativity in many ways, on many days

We can't even choose what shoes we want to wear each day, so how are we meant to commit to body art that will last forever? We've rounded up the best body art trends you can change as often as your outfit.

1 Henna

Traditional henna, or metallic henna-like temporary tattoos, are an excellent non-permanent alternative to tattoos. Image: Pinterest.

A little more permanent than the other options, henna is nonetheless a fantastically popular form of body art expression that you won’t regret when you’re 70. The iconic, swirly designs are made using henna plant leaves ground into a paste and painted on the skin. The pigment infuses the skin leaving an intricate design that will last for weeks, not years.

2 Jewellery

Like a tattoo but better, because you can mix and match with your outfit for an inky-chic look. AND they're eco friendly!

With all the inky decadence of a henna tattoo, but with the ability to unclip at the end of the day, these form-hugging pieces from Batucada are seriously in demand. Creating bold artistic statements, each one has a rubber-like texture that melds with your body to create a seamless creative statement. The best part? They’re all hand-made with 100 per cent recyclable eco-friendly materials.

3 Nail art

Because who doesn't want fruit on their finger nails? And if you mess up? Polish remover! Image: Pinterest.

Nail art is so hot right now we can’t even stand it. Forget the dusky pink, muted tones your mother used to wear; now it’s all about bright colours, intricate patterns and next-level artwork. Pinterest is full of tutorials for those who want to learn how to create a painting on a teeny scale, or more basic tips for beginners. And all it takes is some polish remover and you can clear the canvas for a new masterpiece.

4 Lipstick art

We KNOW these aren't everyday looks, but they're so pretty we couldn't resist. Image: Pinterest.

Pucker up buttercup! We KNOW these lips are next-level ridiculous, but they were so pretty we couldn’t resist. Even though you wouldn’t wear this trend out to the corner store, there are a dazzling array of tips and tricks, not to mention colour options, to make your mark on the beauty world in and put your creativity where your mouth is.

5 Eye art

Let it go! Wait, DON'T let it go, this look is hot! Or should that be cool? Image: Pinterest; Tal Peleg Art of Makeup.

Jeepers creepers, where’d you get those peepers? The options for creating works of art on your lids are endless, from a simple smoky eye, to a glittery showpiece inspired by your favourite movie. If these designs are too intimidating (we freaked out a little), start with a basic neutral look to hone your skills. And don’t forget to use an eye primer!
