The weather is warming, the beaches are looking mighty fine, Christmas is just around the corner, and business is slowing winding down – there are endless reasons to enjoy this time of year! Brisbane Powerhouse gives us another excuse to indulge this season, with the return of their debaucherously delightful summer celebration, Wonderland Festival.

Over 11 nights, the end-of-year carnival will showcase an unrivalled selection of wacky, wonderful, salacious, and stunning performances. Now in its fourth year, the festival is a one-of-a-kind celebration of the incredible up and coming artists that are changing the landscape of performance art in Australia. Brisbane Powerhouse Artistic Director Kris Stewart comments, “Summer in Brisbane is unlike anywhere else in the world. Evenings linger long and there’s a real sense of informality and revelry in the air. Wonderland Festival bottles that spirit and pops the cork night after night with a world-class program of unashamedly balls-out entertainment; it’s a thrill from top to bottom.”

Following on from last years incredibly successful festival, the 2017 program is jam-packed with a range of internationally acclaimed acts and interstate guests, performing alongside our very own Brisbane artists. Expect to be tantalised, delighted, surprised, and transported by acts covering everything from comedy and burlesque to circus, cabaret, music and more.

Wonderland Festival Brisbane Powerhouse

L: Elizabeth I, R: The Wives of Wolfgang,

Now that we’ve got your interest, you’re probably wondering which acts to see. Well, to be succinct, all of them. But if we absolutely must select a few standouts, you’ll definitely see us at Würst (a smouldering and sizzling male striptease cabaret comedy), Elizabeth I (an electric comedy routed in historical drama), and Nefarious (a magician and a mentalist walk into a theatre… what happens next we are yet to discover).

To further support the incredible acts that delight and inspire us, Brisbane Powerhouse’s Wonderland Festival will be contributing 100% of net box office earnings directly to those creating and delivering the work: the esteemed performers.

“Wonderland Festival epitomises our commitment to emerging artists and new works, providing a lowrisk, safe platform for artists to play, and audiences to take a gamble on something new,” Stewart said. “So come for a show, come to hang with friends; just come to enjoy the madness of the whole experience. Our doors are open to everyone; let the silly season begin!”
