The largest festival of its kind in the world and one of Queensland’s most prestigious cultural events, the Buddha Birth Day Festival at South Bank attracts over 200,000 visitors each year. The coolest place to park your food truck, Welcome to Bowen Hills, are hosting a two-day gin extravaganza to celebrate the launch of their laneway gin bar, Swill. Swill, along with 20 other pop-up gin stalls will be serving up free tastings from midday this Saturday, with a ton of creative takes on the classic G&T, as well as loads of impressive gin cocktails to savour. And because nobody should drink on an empty stomach, there’ll also be a variety of food trucks to keep your hunger at bay and live music and entertainment to help the good vibes flow.

Don your sombrero, shake those maracas and get ready to kick off Cinco De Mayo at Riverland. Indulge in a fiesta on the river featuring Mexican street food from Burrito Shack, a live Mariachi band from 2pm, a pop-up bar with cocktails on tap, Mexican beers, margaritas and DJs until late. Bringing a soundwave of goodness to some of the more neglected corners of Australia’s festival scene, Groovin is heading to Townsville this weekend with a line-up stacked with local and international talent. The festival’s all about the journey, the destination and the experience, and with a public holiday on Monday and tickets still available, there’s never been a better excuse to pack up your best friends and make the trip up north.
