Public holidays are the gift that keeps on giving at the moment! With a festival for everything from gin to Buddhism to spicy food, we’ve got plenty of things to keep you occupied over the long weekend.

Lorna Jane Outlet Warehouse Sale | Thurs, May 3

If you’re searching for a little extra motivation to keep your summer bod in check during the cold winter months, Lorna Jane is hosting a five-day warehouse sale at Jindalee to make sure you look and feel good while you’re getting fit.

Buddha Birth Day Festival 2018 | Fri, May 4

The largest festival of its kind in the world and one of Queensland’s most prestigious cultural events, the Buddha Birth Day Festival at South Bank attracts over 200,000 visitors each year. Spread over three massive days, come and celebrate the event’s 22nd anniversary, and enjoy a relaxed environment surrounded by a range of displays, entertained by a variety of performances, all the while experiencing cultural customs, activities and vegetarian food.

Big Gin Festival | Sat, May 5

The coolest place to park your food truck, Welcome to Bowen Hills, are hosting a two-day gin extravaganza to celebrate the launch of their laneway gin bar, Swill. Swill, along with 20 other pop-up gin stalls will be serving up free tastings from midday this Saturday, with a ton of creative takes on the classic G&T, as well as loads of impressive gin cocktails to savour. And because nobody should drink on an empty stomach, there’ll also be a variety of food trucks to keep your hunger at bay and live music and entertainment to help the good vibes flow.

Cinco De Mayo | Sat, May 5

Don your sombrero, shake those maracas and get ready to kick off Cinco De Mayo at Riverland. Indulge in a fiesta on the river featuring Mexican street food from Burrito Shack, a live Mariachi band from 2pm, a pop-up bar with cocktails on tap, Mexican beers, margaritas and DJs until late. No Juan will be disappointed!

Groovin the Moo, Townsville | Sun, May 6

Bringing a soundwave of goodness to some of the more neglected corners of Australia’s festival scene, Groovin is heading to Townsville this weekend with a line-up stacked with local and international talent. The festival’s all about the journey, the destination and the experience, and with a public holiday on Monday and tickets still available, there’s never been a better excuse to pack up your best friends and make the trip up north. The 2018 line up has something for everyone, with the likes of Vera Blue, Flight Facilities and Duke Dumont set to take the stage.

Hothead Chilli Fiesta | Sun, May 6

Fight the increasingly cool weather and cloudy skies and spice up your life at a gourmet food festival celebrating chilli in all its forms, from mild to wild, at the Caxton Hotel. The Caxton’s kitchen will have a special chilli-filled menu, and you can expect food trucks, stallholders and loads more, serving up the spice in the form of eats, sauces, spices and jerky. For the brave of heart – and tastebuds – you can also sign up for the numerous chilli-eating competitions throughout the day, to truly warm your insides.
