Six Characters in Search of an Author

This theatre production from HeartBeast is more underground than ever. Literally.

From April 15 to 29, HeartBeast Theatre will be performing Luigi Pirandello’s absurdist masterpiece Six Characters in Search of an Author. This is a theatre experience not to be missed, with a stunning and enigmatic backdrop provided by Brisbane’s historic underground reservoir in Spring Hill.

This evocative location (built in 1871) led HeartBeast to develop a season of plays which explore questions of what’s above and what’s below, what’s reality and what’s illusion.

Director Anna Loren says, “Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author presented itself as an obvious and exciting choice for this very reason.

“Through the ‘theatre of the theatre’, the play explores the notion of conflicting personal truths and what it is that makes these ‘truths’ a reality.

“And of course translating that for the dark and moody chambers of the underground reservoir is very exciting, both for us as artists, and for the audience,” she says.

Six Characters in Search of an Author is an absurdist metatheatrical play about the relationship between authors, their characters and theatre practitioners.

Tickets start from $27pp, but special discount and group rates are available.

HeartBeast Theatre is a critically-acclaimed Brisbane independent theatre company that has been enthralling audiences with its bold and highly stylised productions since 2010.
