Friday, December 1 is World AIDS Day, the day to wear a red ribbon in support of those living with HIV, AIDS or HIV or AIDS related conditions.
The global initiative aims to encourage everyone to better educate themselves and others about HIV, how the disease is transmitted and prevention strategies so as to reduce the number of people being diagnosed with HIV, AIDS and related conditions.
World AIDS Day also aims to show support to those living with HIV and ensure that they can participate fully in the community without stigma and discrimination.
By wearing a red ribbon, the international symbol of HIV awareness and support, you’re not only showing your support for those with the disease but raising awareness about testing, treatment and care.
Early treatment of HIV results in better health outcomes and reduces the likelihood of onward transmission, so do your bit and read up on the facts and show your support for those living with HIV, AIDS or HIV or AIDS related conditions.
