Save The Date! PETstock’s National Pet Adoption Day Is Coming Up!

Adopt, don’t shop.

There is a saying that goes a little something like this, ‘if having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans.’ Here at Style, our furry friends are the light of our lives - we sometimes even hold BYO pet to work day! Animals bring so much joy and happiness into the world, but sadly there is a staggering amount of animals without homes in Australia. Heartbreakingly, each year alone there are around 200,000 pets that remain unclaimed in Australian pounds. To help give more beautiful animals loving homes, PETstock has again teamed up with the leading adoption site PetRescue to hold the fifth annual National Pet Adoption Day.

This year, the National Pet Adoption Day will be held on Saturday February 9 across PETstock stores in Australia. So, if you have been thinking about welcoming a new fur baby into your life, from 10am-2pm you will have the chance to meet with the animals searching for new homes and hopefully change their lives!

On the day, all breed labels will be removed from listed pets as a way to forget any breed stereotypes and encourage people to get to know the animal’s own individual personality. Just like us humans, each animal is unique and has their own characteristics. Animal behaviourist, Dr Kate Mornement says that an animal’s personality and temperament is often influenced by environment and previous experiences – not just their breed. So, even if a pet has had a rough start in life, they can thrive when they are provided with some TLC!

National Pet Adoption Day also serves us with an important reminder to be mindful when taking a new pet home to stop the cycle of animal homelessness. While bringing a new animal into your family is exciting, it is important to remember that animals require a lot of constant love and care. So, before adopting make sure you will have the time and resources to truly nurture a pet. Always keep your lifestyle and living situation in mind when adopting too – an active Golden Retriever isn’t going to thrive by being cooped up in a small apartment.

If it’s your time for a new furry friend, we will see you on National Pet Adopting Day to find your perfect pet match!
