The Million Meters for Melanoma gala ball is part of the MM4M initiative, started by a group of young Brisbane doctors in 2016 after one tragically lost their sister-in-law to melanoma in her early thirties. Since her passing, these guys have worked tirelessly to preserve her memory, all the while raising much-needed funds for melanoma related research.
In the first year of MM4M, these guys broke the world record for the fastest team to row a million meters on an ergo, with their gruelling three day efforts earning over $132,000 for skin cancer research. This year, they are going after the world record for the fastest team to run a million metres on the treadmill, and with only 82 hours on the clock, they are gearing up for the race of their lives.
These young doctors are attempting to raise $250,000 for a new melanoma research unit at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, to support the thousands of Queenslanders affected by the disease every year and what better way to help fight this disease than with a night filled with good wine, great food, live entertainment and enough dancing to leave you limping into work on Monday!
The Million Metres for Melanoma Ball will be held on Royal International Convention Centre on September 22nd from 7pm until late. Tickets are $160 each or $1500 for a table of 10, and include a gourmet three course meal with 4 hour drinks package. Tickets are available via the RBWH Foundation.
