6 Family-Friendly Things To Do In the City This Month

It’s a family affair!

By Astrid Taemets | 28th June 2022

Hey Mum and Dad! We know it can be hard coming up with new ways to keep the wildings entertained (especially in the cooler months and over the holiday break), so let us take the footwork out of planning an outing for you.

Whether you’re after a weekend excursion, day trip, or need to fill in the school holidays, we’ve found six ways to make the most of time together as a family.

Parents, you’re welcome.

The Sound Society, Roma St Parkland

When: 3 July

Bringing the good times to the green, The Sound Society is the perfect place to set up, relax, and listen to live music for free. Turning up the good times on 3 July from 11am – 2pm, satiate your cravings with a picnic hamper from The Garden Room Cafe, specially curated for the event with homemade dips, deli meats, and farmhouse cheeses (psst, pre-order is necessary here). Got some fussy eaters in the house? Pack your own plates of grub! The kids will have a ball exploring the gardens and playgrounds, while you kick back on your rug with a rosé and some sweet, melodic tunes.

Riverside at the Gardens Market

When: Every Sunday

Spend your Sunday riverside roaming food, fashion, and art stalls at the Gardens Market. With live music pumping out the tunes as you browse the array of local artisan stalls, you and the kids can fuel up on delicious bites from food and coffee trucks. Based in the heart of the Botanic Gardens, it’s the perfect place to meet up with friends for a wholesome Sunday. Grab some fresh produce from the stalls then plonk yourselves down in the lush gardens for a picnic.

MoB Kids

When: 25 June – 10 July

With the kids at home over the school holidays, keep them off the iPad and entertained with wholesome, creative activities at Museum of Brisbane. With a stack of free kids events happening around the clock as part of their Winter School Holiday program including jewellery making, drawing sessions, and interactive games, let your little ones flex their artistic skills at MoB. Tickets and prices vary depending on the program event, so book and explore it all here.

Kids Collective, Roma St Parkland

When: 29 June – 8 July

Hello free babysitting (well, sort of). Coinciding with the school holidays, your kids’ backpacks are set to remain a staple thanks to the Kids Collective program in the Roma Street Parkland. With free activities for tots aged 5-12 years, there’s plenty to keep them occupied every day across the program from 9am – 1pm. Each day is scheduled with different activities alongside select food and drinks trucks to keep their energy levels up.

The Westin Ultimate Slumber Party

When: Now until 30 December 2022

Skip the airport security cues and highway traffic for a holiday right in the heart of the city with The Westin Brisbane, who’ve launched a new family package that ticks all the boxes. Check in with the gang to find teepees, pillow forts, toys, and more set up in your room to keep the little ones busy, while you raise a glass and put your feet up. With a resort-style heated pool, swim-up bar, and exceptional room service, this staycay is the epitome of livin’.

Gigs And Picnics

When: Third Saturday of every month

Grab your basket, blanket, and rally the troops for a groove on at this free event. Letting the good times roll from 12pm – 4pm, kick back to the mellow tunes against the lush backdrop of the City Botanic Gardens. With snacks at the ready from a range of food trucks, nosh on all afternoon with your crew. Cheers to wholesome weekends!
