No matter how much we try and convince ourselves; Queenslanders were just not built for winter. Getting out of bed each morning feels like that weird training Russian fighter pilots undergo to get ready for high altitude conditions; alternately jumping into sweet, bubbling jacuzzies and then stagnant, subzero pools until they can’t feel their Russian frankfurts.
But, at last, our saviour has arrived, for Bakery Lane will be hosting the inaugural Craft Coffee Festival this Saturday, the 4th of August. Bakery Lane’s cache of premiere cafes and restaurants, including well-known coffee hangouts Le Petit Paris Bakery and Cakes & Sh*t, will be celebrating all things “caffeine” by serving up such coffee-inspired creations as tiramisu cups, espresso cupcakes, and crepes “dripping in finesse’-that is, coffee crème. All served with milky coffees, of course.
Local coffee suppliers will also be on hand to sample brews and beans from across the region, and skilled baristas will be demonstrating how to make that perfect cup of joe. Visitors will also be treated to live entertainment and interactive showcases, with The Fergies and Pink Matter, an award-winning female four-piece band celebrating their national festival debut, set to sweeten the stage. With the setting of the sun, “naughty” coffee aficionados can enjoy espresso martinis or coffee-infused cocktails at one of the laneway bars, with the likes of Bowery Bar and Laruche Bar joining in on the coffee love and serving complimentary savoury bites. Even decaf lovers, if you even exist, can get their hands on a bevvy of decaf beverages.
So scrap that plan to spend Saturday spooning your hot water bottle, and get your coffee buzz on at Bakery Lane.
