If you couldn’t make it down to Melbourne for The House of Dior exhibition this year, we’ve found the next big exhibit that will have fashion lovers across Australia travelling to the GC this Summer.
Coming into Fashion: A Century of Photography at Condé Nast is launching this Saturday, November 25 at the Gold Coast City Gallery to showcase and celebrate some of the most iconic fashion photography of the past century.
From Helmut Newton to Mario Testino, Coming into Fashion will explore the glamour and other-worldly photography that has gripped the fashion industry and beyond for over 100 years.
Renowned curator, writer and art historian, Natalie Herschdorfer has carefully navigated through millions of original prints and magazine pages from the vast Condé Nast archives in New York, Paris, London and Milan to create a collection that showcases extraordinary fashion and photography from every era.
“I was not looking for specific photographers or icons,” Herschdorfer said. “I wanted to make a selection that represented the history of fashion photography but also included those iconic photos that stood well enough on their own, across any era.”
The exhibition won’t just stop at photography. In addition to the images, a selection of vintage couture fashion from Australia’s largest private collection from the late 1700s to the 20th century will also be on display. The selection of iconic pieces has carefully been curated to pair seamlessly with the dramatic retrospective photos.
As well as displaying the fashion photography and couture, the exhibition will also showcase a number of fashion films and documentaries throughout the season.
This kind of exhibit doesn’t come close to home often, and if you’re as excited about its arrival as us, you won’t want to miss this weekend’s Talk Suite and Fashion Forum.
On Saturday, November 25, the exhibition will kick off with a discussion that will see guests hear from international and Australian industry leaders, including Sophie Tedmanson from Vogue Australia, Amanda Shadforth of Oracle Fox, and Clare Press from Marie Claire Australia, as they discuss the past, present and future of the world of fashion.
Coming into Fashion: A Century of Photography at Condé Nast is a ticketed exhibition on display at the Gold Coast City Gallery from Saturday, November 25 until Sunday, February 18, 2018.
