Throughout the second weekend of June, she will be participating in Best of Brisbane Style & Design Market – a high-end market showcasing cutting-edge designers across fashion, jewellery, homewares and art. Also on the bill are Black Milk, Winston Wolfe, LJC Designs, Concrete Jellyfish, Get Robed and more. With free antipasto platters, kombucha and homemade lemonade, as well as the chance to win your very own WINSTON WOLFE piece (valued at $500), this is a fashion pop-up you definitely don’t want to miss.
Thursday 7th JUNE
The Brian Jonestown Massacre @ The Tivoli
The 1990’s American musical project and band The Brian Jonestown Massacre, is making their long-awaited return to Australian shores this Thursday and the Tivoli is set to go off! Having released their brand spanking new album Something Else, the band has built a devoted Australian fan base, galvanized by their wildly original and thrilling live shows. They are renowned for having built their career out of prioritising art over commercial compromise, so whether its another record or a live show, you will be in for one big trip and this Thursday is no exception to that! Grab your tickets asap and enjoy the sounds of the iconoclastic purveyors of drone-laden psychedelia.
Friday 8th JUNE
In celebration of Queensland’s cultural diversity, heritage, people, places and history Queensland Week is back for its 11th annual LUMINOUS Lantern Parade. Set to capture our imaginations with a spectacular use of light, in uniting government, community leaders, multicultural communities and everyday Queenslanders. The Southbank precinct will illuminate to symbolise a sense of hope and welcoming to our oldest and newest Australians. This special, free event will see more than 15,000 people unite and be a part of the spectacle of light and sound, set against the backdrop of the River City. Featuring will be an array of new lanterns and programs, with larger lanterns including a koala, owl, kangaroo, rainbow serpent and iconic Brisbane landmarks including the Story Bridge and City Hall. The event will then end with an electrifying free concert on the Cultural Forecourt. It is set to be a very special night for some very special people. Start at 5pm-9pm.
City Calm Down @ The Tivoli
We know, calm down. We share your excitement in welcoming City Calm Down to Brisbane this Friday as they perform at the Tivoli. All in support of their new record, Echoes in Blue, the Melbourne four-piece are one of the most dynamic bands currently making music in Australia. Echoing that same morosely-tinged synth-pop sound from their debut album, this album is more refined, mature and lyrically and sonically expansive. Creating a holistic experience, enticing you to understand the impersonality of modern life and enabling you to take a different perspective on the bigger picture, is what City Calm Down is all about. Get your tickets to see this fierce live act, not one to be missed!
Tequila and Tacos @ The Pig ‘n’ Whistle
That’s what we’re taco’n about. Pig ‘n’ Whistle is hosting a Tequila and Tacos night this Friday. Gain a better appreciation for tequila as you better acquaint yourself with it, exploring its origins and the various ways to enjoy it. Served on the rocks, in a margarita or served neat, there are many ways to enjoy and not all will result in a two-day hangover! Upon arrival drinks will be served, with three tequila tastings, followed by a fiesta of delicious Mexican food and another drink to finish. For just $35 per person, be accompanied by live music, enjoy your tequila and tacos and have a night you will in fact remember.
Saturday 9th JUNE
The annual Marina Mirage Winter Showcase is returning this weekend to showcase the biggest trends of the season. With the event to be held underneath the towering white sails of the Gold Coast’s boutique retail and dining destination, Marina Mirage’s leading fashion retailers will present their latest winter offerings to coincide with the arrival of the new season. Kendall Gilding, Channel 7 personality, will be hosting the event and will be sharing her chic, personal insights with guests. This years’ event will be curated by leading Gold Coast stylist Laura Churchill of The Style Report, who indicates this season’s trends will be a true celebration of winter on the Gold Coast. General admission is free and will allow guests to stand and enjoy the spectacle, while VIP reserve seating is also available with tickets at $25 per person which includes a glass of sparkling wine upon arrival and VIP seating.
UBET Stradbroke Day – 2018 Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival
Set to glitter with glory, Doomben Racecourse will be booming as Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival reaches its spectacular finale with UBET Stradbroke Day. Don your best frock and fascinator or suit up for Queensland’s swankiest food, fashion, racing and entertainment. This humdinger of a sporting event is one that you should have already marked in your calendar! Okay LE-GO. Whether you are an observer, collector or builder, this expo is where you will want to be this Saturday! The non-for-profit BrisBricks Strathpine Lego Expo will be bringing over 45 exhibitors to the Strathpine community centre this weekend. The coolest of cool displays will be in attendance, with a couple major highlights including an impressive Batcave model and a huge Harry Potter display with the Hogwarts Castle accessed from Kings Cross station via Hogwarts express. You’ll also find interactive displays, a large train layout with some blockbuster movie scenes reenacted by little LEGO figurines, plus fan-built LEGO creations and set displays. Get amongst all of the fun, with their added selection of specialist LEGO retailers, balloon animals, LEGO jewellery and face painting.
All profits made from this Expo will be sent directly to a number of local children’s charities including Children’s Hospital Foundation, Lions and the Albany Creek Scouts. Have fun while helping raise money for some wonderful causes.
Chu the Phat Rugby Lunch
With all of the hype leading up to the Wallabies vs Ireland game at Suncorp Stadium this Saturday, Chu the Phat is joining the fun with their hosting of a scrumptious Rugby Lunch banquet prior to the game. This 3-hour lunch banquet at the eclectic and exciting Pan-Asian restaurant will feature guest speakers including Wally Lewis and a couple ex-Wallabies! Serving an authentic Asian street food experience with a modern dining flair, this menu is set to delight, excite and leave your tummy satisfied all before the big game. Sunday 10th JUNE
Get your chilli on because things are about to get very hot and spicy! Held on the beautiful grounds of the Bulimba Golf Club, enjoy over 27 stalls featuring all things chilli, delicious, fun, frivolous, educational and exciting. Not a fan of having your throat on fire? Don’t fret there will also be non-chilli food options available. With such a decadent array of delicious foods, you won’t find anything over $12. This year will feature an adorable festival mascot, Noodle the Dachshund, who will be taking up the role of “Briz Chilli Dog” and will be helping to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis through a gold coin donation for an insta snap with him! Kids activities will include donkey rides, jumping castles, creative sand art and more.
Brisbane Lions @ The Gabba
Gather your friends together, put on your maroon, blue and yellow and storm the Gabba this Sunday! The Lions will be kicking off against Essendon and you’re guaranteed to see spectacular marks, impossible goals and amazing live action. A perfect way to end your weekend on an absolute high!
