Rumour Has It… A New Rooftop Bar Is Opening In New Farm
ROOFTOP RÊVERIE
By Cali Westmoreland | 18th February 2026In a city that is quickly becoming inundated with the finest restaurants and bars, RUMA is rising to sky level like a balmy breeze at golden hour. Elevated above Little Lane on the corner of Merthyr Road and Brunswick Street, this New Farm newcomer isn’t simply opening its doors — it’s setting a new tone for the neighbourhood.
Conceived by the team behind 27 Hospitality Group – Daniel Tuivaiti, Katrina Mead, Jessica Mead, Christopher Mead & Chef Felipe Oliveria – RUMA is “not just a place, but a feeling: comfort, connection, belonging.” The sort of place where time pauses, cocktails perspire prettily in the warm Brisbane air, and the table becomes both stage and sanctuary.
Inspired by tropical regions and island heritage, RUMA is built on a deliciously simple philosophy: “the best moments happen around a table.” And here, that table is set sky-high.
The Space
Behind the tactile allure of RUMA is Alkot Studio – the design authority behind some of Brisbane’s most coveted addresses, from Emme on James Street to Pilloni, BOS and Vapiano. Here, their signature restraint reaches a new altitude. The rooftop feels instinctive, almost undone, yet entirely resolved; sculpted curves, diffused light and precisely framed sightlines unfolding in quiet, deliberate harmony. It’s a study in atmosphere – effortless at first glance, exacting on closer look.

And we all know it takes a village to raise a rooftop. For RUMA, the architectural narrative was shaped by Twohill & James, realised in collaboration with Unita, Armada Built and project manager Mike Long. At the helm, Spiro Group (Nick Spiro), alongside Griffith Group (Byron Griffith), guided the development from blueprint to balmy reality.
The result is a seamless convergence of architecture, construction and concept – a space that feels organic in spirit, yet impeccably composed in execution.
The Kitchen
And of course, a restaurant is nothing without its menu.
Helmed by Chef Felipe Oliveira, RUMA’s kitchen is driven by quality and intent. His approach is thoughtful, expressive – a study in flavour and finesse. The chef’s table experience offers a front-row view into the soul of the menu to come, presenting each dish in its most considered expression. Watch this space – we have a feeling this dining experience won’t stay under the radar for long.
The Mood
The rooftop escape blends lush textures, open air and vibrant energy with quality-led dining and considered cocktails. Think warm timber, layered greenery, and a palette that feels kissed by the sun. The mood feels transportive yet entirely at home in New Farm – relaxed, alive, and just a little bit escapist.
Whether it’s a spontaneous drink after work or a date night for two, the room rises to meet the moment. Effortlessly shifting with the energy you bring, it cocoons you in a world apart – somewhere between downtown polish and far-flung island ease. You’ll leave a little lighter, a little looser, as though you’ve slipped away for the weekend without ever packing a bag.

RUMA is not merely a rooftop bar. It is a mood, a memory in the making. A place shaped by tropical warmth and effortless style, where connection feels natural, and celebration feels easy.
In a city obsessed with the next hot thing, RUMA reminds us of something timeless: that the most meaningful luxury is belonging. And at this table, there’s always room.
